‘We must free Cyprus’
By Stefanos Evripidou

NEWLY-ELECTED Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou yesterday blazed a diplomatic trail across the Aegean to Istanbul, where he called on Greece and Turkey to “free Cyprus” of motherlands, occupation troops, walls and division.

Speaking from the Patriarchate in Istanbul, where the Greek leader chose to make his first foreign trip since being elected, Papandreou said: “We must free Cyprus of dependencies and its motherlands, occupation troops, divisions and walls which have no place in the European Union.”

Papandreyu made the essentials of his Cyprus policy very clear. We can sum it up as:

No guarantorship, no foreign troops(including British bases), no federal states behind ethnic lines; TCs must accept minority status and voila Cyprob solved... It's in perfect concord with National Council decisions... ehhh, whose national council is it? United Hellenes? Yes...

Glad to see Papandreyu speaks out abt what's in his mind... this will accelerate the finalization of Cyprob in a very near future. :D

And what the fuck did you expect? A legitimisation of the status quo?

There's a Greek Muslim minority up in northeastern Greece, they're doing just fine, even if they do have a whinge about not being allowed to call themselves "turks" every once in a while (and after all, who the fuck would voluntarily want to be known as a turk?). They're certainly doing a hell of a lot better than some of the minorities past and present in anatolia.

The Greeks would do well to adopt the "Cypriot muslim minority" approach for the tc's, and employ the Cham/Slavophone approach for mainland settlers and brit carpetbaggers.

We don't have wet dreams... since we can't agree on a solution acceptable to both of us; u will have ur own state which u r very happy with it and we will have our own state which we r happy with it... we will set up a bi-communal properties board which will function on the basis exchange and/or restitution and/or compensation and fix the land and property ownership issues... alle gut ende gut...

It is clear that the Turks do not want a free Cyprus where Cypriots will peacefully and democratically take decisions for their own island. The Turks want an enslaved Cyprus as it was during Ottoman rule, so they can rule Cyprus via their minority on the island and have privileges on our expense.
