‘We must free Cyprus’
By Stefanos Evripidou
NEWLY-ELECTED Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou yesterday blazed a diplomatic trail across the Aegean to Istanbul, where he called on Greece and Turkey to “free Cyprus” of motherlands, occupation troops, walls and division.
Speaking from the Patriarchate in Istanbul, where the Greek leader chose to make his first foreign trip since being elected, Papandreou said: “We must free Cyprus of dependencies and its motherlands, occupation troops, divisions and walls which have no place in the European Union.”

Papandreyu made the essentials of his Cyprus policy very clear. We can sum it up as:
No guarantorship, no foreign troops(including British bases), no federal states behind ethnic lines; TCs must accept minority status and voila Cyprob solved... It's in perfect concord with National Council decisions... ehhh, whose national council is it? United Hellenes? Yes...
Glad to see Papandreyu speaks out abt what's in his mind... this will accelerate the finalization of Cyprob in a very near future.
