The UK is being taken to the European Court of Human Rights

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The UK is being taken to the European Court of Human Rights

Postby insan » Sat Oct 10, 2009 12:00 am

The UK is being taken to the European Court of Human Rights for failing to uphold its guarantee on Cyprus. About 22 Greek Cypriot “refugees”, who were forced to leave their homes following the July 1974 Turkish intervention , claim that Britain has done little to help them in their fight to be allowed to return to their land.

I don't see how this is related to the ECHR.

The "guarantors" of Cyprus (including the UK) not only failed to act according to the treaty but they did the exact opposite of what was their obligation according to the treaty: "recognize and guarantee the independence, territorial integrity and security of the Republic of Cyprus".

Based on this the Republic of Cyprus should have declared this treaty as null and void and demand from the UK to return the territory of Cyprus which they keep as bases.

Haven't looked into this but will do.

For now suspect that if this has come from GB Cypriots, one of the provisions of the HR legislation goes something like ... that states are bound to protect their citizens and respect their interests and property (no matter where that property is located). No doubt in my mind that GB has put its perverted public policy on CY way in front of the human rights of a good many of it's citizens.

GB has failed to do this for thousands of its citizens.

According to my research, the Treaty of Guarantee is technically invalid…

...it is an injustice that deserves an answer. like so many others, the perpetrators dismiss and deny by painting bigger pictures of need.

but like injustice, truth rings a tone that resonates over years. these acts are not forgotten; where courage fails.

...if this story is true, then i hope that it is because it stands to change so much in what remains hidden about the deep: in the Cold War.

ignorance cannot hold the agenda of Human Betterment, Britain we hope will recognise this need in overcoming her own fears.

And on the flip side, TCs are bad at playing the victims...LOL:

Turkish Cypriot businessman will file charges against Britain in the ECHR

Turkish Cypriot daily Halkin Sesi newspaper (09.10.09) reports that a Turkish Cypriot businessman in the field of tourism with the name of Sami Gudenoglu will demand from guarantor power Britain the sum of three million pounds sterling as compensation for financial and mental damage injury through the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on the grounds that he suffered loss because of the so-called embargoes. Mr Gudenoglu, manager of Zumrut Tourism Company, issued a written statement noting that he sells Turkish Cypriot properties in the occupied areas of Cyprus in an effort to “remain on his feet” and added that he expects help from “all the competent authorities of the TRNC in this process”. He is also struggling for the commencement of direct flights to the illegal airport in Tymvou. He said he will submit a lawsuit to the ECHR and accuse Britain of not fulfilling its duties as guarantor power. He alleged that embargo is imposed on 250 thousand Turkish Cypriots who live in Britain and are prevented from flying directly to the occupied areas of Cyprus.

Spent ages trying to confirm this last night with other sources. Nothing.

Anyone come across anything to substantiate this report?
