How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Viewpoint » Sun Jul 17, 2005 7:07 pm

Alex Ill try;

Guven Yok = No Trust

A comprehenive poll was conducted by Kadem and Cymar and reveleaed that although both communites viewed the formula of and EU security guarantee favourably the two communities we not ready to trust each other.

AVRUPA-KIBRIS GÜVENLİK SİSTEMİ REVAÇTA

The EU-Cyprus Security Gurantee was in more demand as TCs favoured this more positive than NATO Guarantees GCs also favoured this type of gurantee but less than TCs: GCs ar enot happy with the current guarantees or what was incluced in the Annan plan.

İLGİNÇ SONUÇLAR... KADEM ve CYMAR'ın

Interesting results were ontained by conducting a similtaneous poll of groups of 1000 people on boths sides asking what they would like to chnage in the Annan plan and what they would include to ensure any agreement would be guranteed and enacted.

SİLAHLI MÜCADELEYLE ÇÖZÜM OLMAZ...

Both communites agree that ann armed effort is not the way to find a soluiton and that war is not favoured.
With regards to viewing themselves as Cypriots first GCs were more positive 76% saying they were more Cypriots against 46% of TCs.

hope this helps...

It does help, thanks ... so the article was not all negative in tone, but also included positive points, such as the fact that GCs consider themselves Cypriot first, and that neither side favours violence. Also that "there are mutually acceptable solutions, but we just don't have enough trust for each other yet". I think this is a realistic appraisal of the situation.

I've heard some comments from the TC side that "the survey shows GCs to be much nicer people than they had thought" (i.e. GCs are willing to have TC neighbours, willing to understand TC concerns, not interested in violence, and willing to see themselves as Cypriot first and Greek second).

I've heard another very interesting comment, from Turkey this time, that "this survey was made to save the face of Erdogan".

(ie, presumably because the survey supports the possibility of a solution through the UN, the policy that Erdogan chose to follow)

I've been called an apologist for Papadopoulos before, but Erdogan ...

Maybe it's best off that you're in Crete if that's what they're labelling you... I can foresee protests at the airport upon your return...
