How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Hitler invaded and occupied Czechoslovakia with the pretext of protecting the German minority. Just like Turkey did in the case of Cyprus. Of course the lame excuse of Hitler was not accepted, just like the lame excuse of Turks is not accepted, which is why the pseudo state you declared on our land is not recognized.

When the balance of power changed and Czechoslovakia was liberated, the German minority was removed from Czechoslovakia so the Germans would not be able to use this minority again as an excuse to invade Czechoslovakia. The same can happen to Cyprus. The Cypriot people have suffered enough from the Turks already.

We are making every effort to live along with your minority in peace, in a democracy - one person one vote, without racist discriminations and with the human rights of every citizen respected.

Unfortunately you support "solutions" based on ethnic cleansing and the human rights violations of innocent people. So don't be surprised when this turns against you and you are forced to accept such kind of "solution" but in reverse.

No Piratis, look carefully to what the Czechs opt out is. Stop dreaming.

YFred, the Czechs can opt-in or out because they are an EU member. Just like Republic of Cyprus is. So when the Turkish minority will be removed from Cyprus we will also do what Czech Republic did. The precedent is already there.

You are just a small minority so you can not opt-in or out from anything in EU. Such decisions are taken by member states, such as Republic of Cyprus, not by some small minority within the country.

This nation will survive with you or without you, one way or another and when your children are ready to discuss peace, and then our children may choose to talk or may tell your children to get lost. That will be their prerogative. Kindly remind you next generation of the two possibilities for their future and they may just have to survive without us.

All you see is a small poor country being suffocated? Isn't it incredible how you only see what you want to see. Do you suppose the rest of the world is deluded when they see a very large well-armed imperial wanna-be trying to legitimise its pillaging and theft, and getting into a huff at the inevitable and repeated failures? And you predict that Greece will be "dragged into the 21st Century, screaming and shouting like a spoiled child who has just lost some sweets" - what a sad joke.

Careful now, cause curiosity killed the cat.

Well, we are all guilty of that one. But, read the comments that Downer sent to the UN during these negotiations and then see who's side the UN is on and which side the UN sees as intransigent on account that they are already in the EU.

This really is delusion on an epic scale. The Turkish Cypriots cannot opt in or out of anything. They are not a recognised state within the EU and never will be. In case you missed it the ROC is the sole and legitimate representative within the EU of the whole island and it is impossible to conceive of a situation where it will "opt-out" of its citizen's property or any other rights. There are no loopholes in EU law that favour the occupation and theft of property. There is a reason for that. If the T/Cs want to be EU citizens then they will have to live with EU laws and be subject to the human rights charter. You cannot have one without the other. Do you understand this or not?

I am merely pointing out that the EU is not what you make of it. They make up the rules as they go along and can make exceptions. When it comes to the CypProb if the EU apply the same mentality as the GCs then there is nothing to discuss. If there is discussions going on then it must be that they are going to accept a compromise between the two positions and approve it, why else have all these negotiations. As to whether TRNC is another country, that rather depends on you guys. Continue with that mentality and it will be.

What makes you think the EU gets to decide if an EU and UN member's occupied territory should be gifted to Turkey?

Think that some people would do well to bear in mind that the EU is a multi-faceted set-up.

The politicians and diplomats will say things that can mean all things to all people. So we can all find support for any of our viewpoints when these people make speeches, issue statements etc.

BUT other faces of this same thing we refer to as "The EU", the non-political bits, are more bound by its laws and treaties. The best example of such a body within the EU that comes to mind is the ECJ, which is the final arbiter of all things EUish and as some wet-dreamers found out, to their great disappointment earlier this year, the ECJ will find for the respecters of laws. The other organs, the other faces, of the EU know this and so I would argue that they will stay away from supporting settlements that could be challenged at the ECJ.

Think that some here should go to the ECJ site and determine for themselves what great judicial power this Court has, not just in cases like Apostides v Orams but in national cases, making Member States toe the line set out in EU treaties.

EU values all it nations. That is why Luxemburg has the same term for Presidency as Germany. You really do not understand the club you have joined.

You laugh at the Turks but you are the most un-european religously backward nation there is and the europeans are only just finding it out. God help them.
