Potamiou is one I would recommend. In the Limassol district northwest of the city, in the general vicinity of Omodos.

purdey wrote:The one's Pissouri mentions are all tourist traps which rely on tourism to survive. Maybe try Lania, Doros and a few others up the Kouris Valley. Not very touristy but some lovely old houses and the villages still rely on the land for income.
Very old church in Doros with some lovely frescos.

Rubbish. I bet Purdey has never been to any of them. A few of them do cater for tourist but they still have kept there charm and traditionalness.

We visited Agros for the first time last week and found it beautiful, so much so we booked a hotel there for over Christmas.

It was very busy so its popular, which means its touristy i.e for the infamous rosewater products and sweets etc, the rose brandy is lovely :) but nevertheless not spoilt, just breathtakingly pretty, full of the smells of grapes and fruits dripping of the trees. Its another world, Cyprus as they always say full of surprises, this one is a real gem.

Went to Kakopetria the same day although again a nice village, Agros was the winner for us, on the way up to the village from Limassol we stopped for morning coffee in Kalavassos, this was the village we stayed in on our very first visit to Cyprus 18 years ago, has to be the best way to get to know about Cyprus imho. We were wined and dined like kings for then a few pounds with the tastiest food and the sweetest brandy/wine, and learned much about the Cyprus problem from a local man who although now quite old is still there today. This is the Cyprus we know and love, wish we could afford to have a place in the mountains as well as here in the East, maybe one day
