It's OK, we believe you. I am sure this an unsolicited recommendation for the company in question.

Richardcy402 wrote:Hi could anybody advise me as to where to buy a car in Cyprus that has not been Clocked. I have found 4 different cars that I would like to have bought but after reading the advert in Cyprus weekly about Car clocking I decide to check them out before I bought. The company Mileage Check Europe (http://www.mileagecheck.eu) provided me with certificates for all 4 cars which proved they had been clocked one of them had actually had 50,000 kilometres removed.

I have a close relative who is a mechanic and who has shipped cars from GB to CY on a small scale for friends and relatives.

He tells me that all cars are clockable with the exception of Mercs ( I think that was the make or it may have been BMW) where the manufacturer insists on an on-line mileage check with a data base at the service time.

He also tells me that this is a large problem in CY where dealers are buying job lots of ex-lease or ex-rental cars in GB, clocking them and sending to CY.

Be wary people, do the checks as RCY says above.

Yea Right, 70% of the cars imported are merc's and bmw's all with 43,000km on them when imported.

I remember watching an old movie, i think it was made in the 70's or 80's but they has raised the car and had put it in reverse to clock it back. something about that when it was in reverse the clocking went back... i doubt that this is how they do it now, but that's the image i have regarding car clocking. so how do they do it nowadays?

Suspect they connect a laptop with dodgy software to the diagnostics port.

The company in question can check pre-export mileage on imported second hand cars but can't advise you on those that have only been registered locally. So perhaps there are two answers: if there's a big problem with the imported cars, don't buy one. And if you buy a second-hand vehicle that was first registered locally in Cyprus - make sure it has a full and up to date service history. Then you'll know exactly what the mileage is.
