yes ive passed through a few times from ledra palace and went to a few cafes and bars in keryneia and in lefkosa..

they hand you a form you fill out your name nationality and id number and they stamp sign it and you can cross over unless you cross with the car then you need to pay them.. but i cross from ledra palace.. i havent been in a few weeks though..

but the point is we shouldent have to show id to pass

Yes, we shouldn't show our ids in our country but u know there is an ongoing, unresolved defacto situation the concerned parties exert to solve...

well as you walk through ledra palace you pass the gc police sitting watching tv. then as you walk to go across there is some old buildings that have not been touched since the war and are in ruins and then some turkish embasey or somethign with turkish flags.. and then there is a house where turkish cypriots live..

ive always wonderd that turkish cypriot family since they dont live across the boarder does that count as north or south? its in the middle but also i forget where i saw it but lots of very old block of flats with indians living in them they look in very bad state..

what is that bit called in the middle where the ruined buildings are

It is called UN buffer zone and as far as I know no one lives in buffer zone. As for the old looking buildings, they r the most stable and warm looking houses of Nicosia made of yellow stones.

I've never come across any indians around Ledra area. :?

Every time I went near the check point ready to cross over, I stopped and turned back. Too many memories.... can't risk them.

That is the funniest thing I've read in ages.
