23 MAY AGREEMENT VIOLATED

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby humanist » Thu Oct 01, 2009 11:40 pm

VP thank you for your definition above.

Firstly I disagree because it will lead to many problems and violates human rights. I cannot see how in a democratic country you can dictate to people where they live and secondly deny them the right to vote.

I hope that the UN does not approve such a plan because it will be violating the rights of people and that is not a world that I at least wish future generations to grow up in.

Once again thanks for taking the time out, to respond to my question.

Turkish Cyprus president slams Christophias over speech at UN
President of Turkish Cyprus Talat lashed out at Greek side leader Christophias for his speech at the UN General Assembly.

President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus(TRNC), Mehmet Ali Talat lashed out at Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christophias for his speech at the UN General Assembly.

At a press conference Wednesday, Talat said Christophias opened a reckless war on UN parameters for the solution of the Cyprus issue and urged the UN to stop this insolence.

Talat said Christophias mentioned in his UN speech that in time Republic of Cyprus would evolve into a federation comprising of two autonomous areas. Talat said this was a diversion from a bizonal solution based on political equality of two founding states, agreed by the two leaders on May 23, 2008 and an attempt to distort the UN Parameters.

Criticizing the UN SG Ban Ki-Moon for being too passive against the Greek Cypriot side, Talat said the UN parameters crafted in 40 years of negotiations was approved by the Security Council in numerous occasions and urged the UN to warn Christophias's approach which he said was unacceptable.

Talat said he invited Ban to Cyprus adding that he insisted upon learning that Ban had no plans of visiting Cyprus.

"Since he did not invite us to New York, and choose to be so passive, I said he could at least come to Cyprus. I hope he will consider it," said Talat.

He said though the Greek Cypriot side agreed to do so, it did not say "founding states" but said "autonomous zone" and was not loyal to the agreement.

"Autonomous zone! This means we went back to 1974. Two Autonomous zones!! This is outrageous. UN needs to say stop to this," said Talat.

The relevant UN parameter is Bi-zonal BF.

It says two zones, two zones is what you'll get.

You see YFred, I was offering more to the TCs with my BBF plan of two Federal States under one Central Federal Government than perhaps the UN, EU and maybe even the GCs, but you, VP and Zan, the anti Democracy all for non and non for all gang, also know as "The Three Fascisteers", is now finding any friends in high places to support any "Founding States" idea that was never agreed on but is nothing but a remnants of the Annan Plan that was rejected by combined Cypriots votes (including settlers with fake Cypriot citizenships) by 55%-45% for the whole island back in 2004. As long as Talat is talking about the non existent "Founding States" argument, Christofias is going to talk more about "Autonomous zone" argument. After all, there are more words of "zones" mentioned in the agreed BBF than there are any mentioning of the words "Founding States".!

For the record, this is the exact passage from President Christofias speech at the UN General Assembly on the 24/09/09.

«Our goal is the restoration of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence and unity of the Republic of Cyprus, the common homeland of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. It is also our goal to restore the human rights and basic freedoms of all citizens of the Republic of Cyprus regardless of their ethnic background.

We are committed to the evolution of the unitary state into a federal state consisting of two largely autonomous regions. One region will be administered by the Greek-Cypriot community and the other by the Turkish-Cypriot community. Given the fact that in Cyprus the population lived intermingled throughout the island, this constituted for us a great historical concession made by the late President Makarios to our Turkish Cypriot compatriots.

We remain true to this commitment. The United Federal Republic of Cyprus must safeguard the unity of the state and its institutions, as well as of the economy and the people.»

I see absolutely no contradiction between the above words and any agreements or declarations been agreed between him and Talat, including the 23rd May 2008 joined communiqué. The reference to “two largely autonomous regions,” within the context of a federal state, is in no case contradicting the 23rd of May communiqué in which there is mention to two “constituent states.” Constituent states under federations, worldwide, are no different that partly autonomous regions under the roof of a federal government. Autonomous means that it has its own laws and sub-constitution. Region basically means an area of a larger territory, as is the case of a constituent state's territory. Absolutely no contradiction whatsoever!

As for Davutoglu and Talat, they are once more been ridiculous! They have no problem distorting the 23rd of May 2008 agreement, by constantly making reference to the use of the non-existing “founding states” terminology, for the last 16 months, but they have a problem with Christofias now using the term “largely autonomous regions.” Talat even talks about this being tantamount to going back to pre-1974. This is nonsense! When, how and where did we have two autonomous regions, before 1974, set aside in a formal sense? Is he serious?
