Title deeds question

Postby Crivens » Tue Sep 29, 2009 8:21 pm

Finally after almost three years I can now get my title deeds apparently. Unfortunately I have had to move back to the UK in the last year and am not returning till the new year. The lawyers said they can do it by giving them power of attorney (which I did when buying the place), but to do this I would need to go to London to the Cyprus high commission and get an authorised signature.

Does anyone know if I really have to go there, or is there anything else I can do (save actually going to Cyprus)? Would be interested in alternative ideas as the lawyers reckon will cost me 300 Euros just for them to do this for me. If it helps my parents live in Cyprus if I could do something clever with my dad for example.

Cheers

Go to the embassy and get an authorised signature and give your dad the power of attorney.

You can hire a Notary to deliver the appropriate papers. You will need to find one in your area (google) make an appointment and sign the papers and they will present them on your behalf, no need to attend the the High Comission.
Price wise, should not be more than £100. You can make your father power of attorney in Cyprus to do all the leg work and sign the final documents.

Why the hurry? If the deed has been issued then you should be able to collect it whenever you’re ready!

Send them an email for all enquiries…

Is the High commission the Embassy then? Also what is involved with an authorised signature? Do I need certain documents (eg. house docs) or just turn up with a British passport and ask for one? Do you if it costs anything?

Good idea giving my dad power of attorney. They mentioned it to my dad (he asked them earlier) but they said he would have to run around all over Limassol sorting it all out. Any idea what he would have to do? I mean I would imagine they are probably playing it up a bit about how much work he would have to do so they get the 300 Euros, but I haven't the foggiest on the process required and they lawyers do.

You will be given various advice via the High Commission. Hence the Notary, I have now been through this procedure 7 times and never had a problem.

Crikey thanks for all the quick replies guys. Last reply I did was in response to the original message, just wanting to double check that the High commission the lawyer told me about is actually the Embassy, or both can do the auth sig.

Why the hurry?
Don't know really. I thought once the deeds were ready then you had to pay up and sort it out. Is there an expiry date or something? The lawyer said it wasn't urgent but said should do within a month or so. I'm over in January for a week, so would this be an ok wait to sort everything out?

I may not be here that often, but I've always loved this forum for quick good help :) Anyways, can you give me a breakdown of what is required UK side and Cyprus side to get title deeds sorted out once you know you can get them? Also do I even need my lawyer to do anything if I have my dad over there? And finally with the Notary I take it they know everything they have to do, making things easier, but do you have a good Notary you recommend?

Cheers
