Why do the Turkish Cypriots need an army?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Why do the Turkish Cypriots need an army?

Postby Christine Toskos » Tue Sep 29, 2009 2:12 am

Do the Turkish Cypriot serve in the Turkish army? If so, why would they serve a country where they aren't citizens? If I drafted in the Canadian army wouldn't I be a citizen? So if Turkish Cypriots are drafted in the Turkish army then are they not Turkish citizens?

The TRNC has its own defense force which supports the Turkish military stationed there.

who are their officers? Turkish or Cypriot. I believe they are enlisted in the Turkish army but they aren't citizens. This is called slavery.

This is called "Status of Forces Agreement" that regulate military exhanges between two countries in a military alliance.

It is all double talk. It is slavery. The 13 colonies had no representation in parilament but they rebelled against their slavery. They served in the British army but hat no power to vote. The same with Turkish Cypriots. They are not free they are slaves of the Turks. If the Turkish army sent them to fight the Kurds a people who want independence they have no choice but serve the Turkish military.

Silly little man. I bet you serve the enemy as a private. They probably kick your little behind. You cannot run for office in Turkey but you could die for Turkey. That sounds like slavery to the rest of the world. Get Real you are a Turkish slave no more and no less.

You may not believe this, but I have my own opinions on the Turkish Armed Forces, and not all of them are complimentary. IMHO, given the close proximity of Turkey to the island, there are too many of them deployed in TRNC, and their disproportionate influence in Turkish politics is an area of concern.

If you are forced to fight for a country where you cannot vote that makes you a slave. The Turkish Cypriots aren't Turkish citizens yet, they are force to join the Turkish army. That is slavery. Can a Turkish Cypriot ever become president in Turkey yet, they must fight for their masters. That is not right.

The Turkish Cypriots have the right to live in peace and security.
