Q for GCs: Greek baptisms

Postby eracles » Sun Sep 27, 2009 11:42 pm

Hi, shortly to get our baby baptised and wife is really worried about the baby screaming (she is not greek cypriot), and not being able to comfort it.
I haven't been to a christening since I was a kid but doesn't it all get a bit much! How long does the service last, how long can she not hold the baby!?
The baby is 1yr old!!! Has anyone got any stories or experiences where the mother has been able to comfort the baby!?
Thanks,
Eracles.

Don't do the baptism until the child "wants" to be indoctrinated ...

I agree entirely, but I had a Cypriot mother-in-law!

You can use the argument that they still go to heaven being innocent babies ... until they are two-three years old and then make a game of the ritual and they'll love it. :D

My mother is as religious as they come but I've managed to put it off for a dozen years so far ...

That's straight after they're born :? .... isn't it?

What does it have to do with the timing of their Baptism?

Still piss on priests, metaphorically speaking.

The mother is not allowed to handle the baby at all, at no time.

All babies cry for a minute or two. It's natural, nothing to worry about. They all stop crying when wrapped in the towel on removal from the font.

I predict some turbulence in the Paphitis household very soon about this touchy subject for me at least....
