Not at all, note the reductions in duty on imported spirits when Cyprus joined the EU. Overall of course we have all been Royally shafted.

Like the robbing bastards over here. They make you £10 better off by reducing x TAX but then increase it somewhere else making you worst off.

If you are bringing a second hand car from anywhere in the EU, you intend to stay in Cyprus, and you have owned it for 6 months, you don't pay any duty. You do pay registration fees, which are peanuts, unless you bring a bloody great 4x4 gas guzzler, then they rightfully screw you!

Our Beloved CBBB,

What if .. someone like me, who's pissed off hiring cars, wanted to bring a motor from GB for our hols, a second-hand car, no intention of living in CY. Happy to register it in CY and it can stay there for our hols.

Then you would need to pay the duty. It is the same in the UK, but because it is easy to go back and forth to continental Europe you can get away with it.

If you check the EU website, it is all there.

But why bring a car over, buy one here. Depending on what you are after, I have 2 for sale at the moment. PM me if you would like details.

Yes, thought so. Thought I would have to pay the duty.

Probably won't be going to CY 'til next Summer but appreciate the offer.

Got to have a think. It's not just the expense of hiring but also the quality of the hire cars. I do so wish that drive-on/drive-off ferry would restart from Piraeus.

Used one of them in 1986, but that is another story to be told over a beer!

If I may say so, an excellent idea.
