Dear Miltiades
I really don't know what should be said in this situation but I'll give it a go. I was touched by your initial post and happy for you in the sense that you were forward with your emotions. Yes, it is important to be the backbone to the family in these times but don't try to bury your feelings.
You've had a hard life Miltiades, you became an orphan and left Cyprus. In London you met Iris and have been together for 46 years, such a marriage blessed with love and commitment is not easy to come by these days. It's human nature to emphasize on our losses rather than our gains, at a time like this embracing what you have with Iris is becomes ever more important.
Iris will always be with you Miltiades, you'll always see a her in your daughters and grandchildren. It's sometimes ironic how things turnout in life, like you said yourself about receiving such dreaded news than a message of a a new grandchild in the same day. The joy life being created overcomes the news of death and such is life.
What your going through now is the hardest phase, I wish you patience as time will mend your wounds.
Regards
Umit
