Bananiot wrote:Well Gregory, it is all very nice to be a great patriot, but you need to tell me how we will imlement those UN resolutions. Only this week the UN Secretary General called upon the two sides to negotiate hard and take the middle road. You do understand what this means I suppose.

Then there is this little issue where a country that spits on the UN Security Council resolutions is elected as a non permanent member of the Security Council. This might help you understand a thing or two, I suppose.

Perhaps, if you were to look at the situation a little bit more closely, you will realise that depite the resolutions, all international organisations (UN, EU etc) are calling on us to find a compromise solution which inevidably will include much of what the other side is asking.

Considering all these you might begin to understand why harbouring maximalist positions will not serve you properly, especially when you are a weak minnow (that roars like a lion). This is of course the direct path to calamity and super so called patriots that are calling us to commit suicide are really the ame people who since the early 50's are engaged in destroying Cyprus in the name of greekness then and basic human rights now.

sorry bananiot, I don't understand. How can the UN be asking for a solution which include parameters other than the UN resolutions? How can the EU be asking for a decision other than a solution that does not required permanent derogation's? How can we be in the wrong when both these institutions are promoting the very things we are using in our arguments? The only argument the Turkish side has to stand on is that there will be a repeat of historically questionable actions in the 60"s for Chstist sake!

I'm the first to admit that wrongs were done from groups and individuals that were GC's, but considering the ongoing hell committed by the turkish army to this day then if we're able to look forward then so should they.

I believe you need to put these defeatist attitudes aside and promote what the EU and the UN are telling us in their charters and their resolutions. Otherwise we need and CAN maintain the status quo indefinitely. We have nothing left to lose right now.

Why would we give up all this for 9% more land and a TC president? Is this minority better able to run this country for 82% of the population than we are?

Lame excuses. People heard both sides, multiple times, and they made their own decision.

If Papadopoulos was able to create some "magical" atmosphere that could hypnotize people and direct their votes then DIKO would be the biggest party in Cyprus and he would always be elected as president. Why would he use his "magical" powers just for the referendum?

I can guarantee you with 100% certainty that even with Christofias as president and even with AKEL support, a plan similar to the Annan plan has ZERO chance of being approved by the Cypriot people.

Also I am 99.9% certain that due to the above fact, there will be no referendum on any plan similar to Annan plan. Christofias will not force the Cypriot people to reject such a plan for a second time.

Because he could play on the fears and prejudices of the uninitiated. Not so easily done against another GC.

Christofias and Anastasiades can easily promote a soution, if they put their minds to it and above all unite to save Cyprus from the rejectionists, for our biggest enemy now is the rejectionists.
