Say RIP; after all they carry the Byzantine genes.... well they did (past tense)

They murdered all 25,000 Janissaries, Deniz ...

Why do you talk of the Military Reforms of Mahmud II? I was talking of the Ottoman Sultan Dynasty. Noneof the mothes (Valide Sultans) were Turkish. At the beginning of the Empire they were Byzantine princesses.

It was one way traffic, Deniz. The Ottomans forced a few (hardly enough to change demographics) Byzantine nobles to help them appear civilised, but they remained Christian, taught them civilised behaviour ... and they have now died out!

All testimony to the evil enslavement the Ottomans practiced to secure their legacy of Turkey ...

The generosity and the tolerance of the Ottomans was unbelievable. They cared not whether their ministers were Greek Albanian, Serbian, Russian or even Cypriot. Greece could learn from the Ottomans. (wow, did I just write that?). Oracle better have real nails this time around.

Oh spare me your propaganda ....

"They cared not" ... is the only true thing you have said.

They were pragmatic. What is wrong with that? What is the 'propaganda'. If they did the job, they went places.

They became the chief architects as Mimar Sinan.

The first printing press by Ibrahim Mutefferika

Loads of veziers were Christian.

Grand Admiral, Barbarossa Hayreddin and his brothers from the Ionian islands were famous 'Turkish' captains. A very cosmopolitan war /work machine.

Take off those rose coloured specs, Deniz (and give them back to Ann).

The Ottomans were the scourge of humanity who set back Europe centuries and spread the plague as well as plunging us all into forced warring just to survive. They enslaved, taxed and slaughtered to seal their gains.

The world is better off without them and if we can reverse any of their damaging legacy then perhaps Europe can regain headway on it's path towards salvation which suffered a major detour due solely to the Ottomans ...although their kids the Turks are proving just as BAD!

Well you're the only one trying to support the Ottomans.

Just accept they were Man's dark past and we should move on, despite this setback from the Ottomans. Like the dinosaurs, they came, they ruled and now they are gone, with modified replacements ... some good, some bad ...

Time will tell, but so far the Turks have NOT learnt a thing!

I would gladly move on Oracle, but it was one of your fav posters who began this thread.

I am not defending the Ottomans, I am simply staing the facts regarding the Cosmopolitan nature of the Ottoman machine.

You want to move on? Then lets do it.  ...forget the past and sort out this mess.
