Why do you talk of the Military Reforms of Mahmud II? I was talking of the Ottoman Sultan Dynasty. Noneof the mothes (Valide Sultans) were Turkish. At the beginning of the Empire they were Byzantine princesses.

Why do you talk of the Military Reforms of Mahmud II? I was talking of the Ottoman Sultan Dynasty. Noneof the mothes (Valide Sultans) were Turkish. At the beginning of the Empire they were Byzantine princesses.


It was one way traffic, Deniz. The Ottomans forced a few (hardly enough to change demographics) Byzantine nobles to help them appear civilised, but they remained Christian, taught them civilised behaviour ... and they have now died out!

All testimony to the evil enslavement the Ottomans practiced to secure their legacy of Turkey ...

The generosity and the tolerance of the Ottomans was unbelievable. They cared not whether their ministers were Greek Albanian, Serbian, Russian or even Cypriot. Greece could learn from the Ottomans. (wow, did I just write that?). Oracle better have real nails this time around. :lol:
