Turkey Supports UN Guided Settlement In Cyprus

Postby halil » Fri Sep 25, 2009 11:13 pm

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stressed that the normalization of the TRNC’s international status can no longer be postponed if the Cyprus problem remains unresolved due to the Greek Cypriot Side’s intransigency.

Addressing the UN General Assembly in New York, Mr Erdogan underlined the need for bringing about a solution to the Cyprus problem under the UN umbrella.
The Turkish Premier said the Cyprus problem can be settled by the end of the year, if all parties concerned act constructively in the negotiations process.

He said the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon should make active participation into the process to bridge the gaps that might remain between the two sides.

“Our goal should be to bring the possible agreement to the referendum by Spring next year, the latest” Erdogan said, warning that the window of opportunity for a settlement will not remain open forever.

Mr Erdogan emphasized that Turkey, as a guarantor power, will fully support any solution to the Cyprus problem that is going to be formed under the UN parameters which envisage the establishment of a new partnership state.

While complaining of the ongoing international isolation on the Turkish Cypriot People despite of their ‘yes’ vote to the Annan Plan in 2004, he said it is against equity to make the Turkish side pay the price for the non-solution.

PRESIDENT TALAT SAID ERDOGAN’S WORDS REFLECT THE TURKISH SIDE POSITION

President Mehmet Ali Talat has said that the speech delivered by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the UN General Assembly reflected the Turkish Side’s views on the Cyprus issue.

The President issued the statement in response to journalists’ questions regarding the Turkish Premier’s comments on the Cyprus issue.

Asked his views regarding the Turkish Premier’s referral to the Cyprus Problem in his speech to the UN General Assembly, the President said it was known by everyone that Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have been acting together on the Cyprus issue.

Stressing that the international community should play a more active role on the Cyprus issue, as it did in 2004 during the negotiations on the Annan Plan, the President said `the United Nations, should become more active in the talks in a way that it will persuade the sides to accept the UN parameters. This is what Mr Erdogan said and we share the same view `.

Responding to another question, President Talat said that the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias rejected an offer made by him to hold a meeting in New York as Mr Christofias afraid that such a meeting would raise the international community’s interest in the Cyprus problem.

Yeah, I'd go along with this, providing every single UN Resolution, the UN Charter and International Human Rights were all rspected on or by Liberation Day. Great idea Eedocont.

( oh, and the Treaty of Guarantee, the treaty designed to screw CY, was torn up by Turkey by such matters as the napalming of Tylliria in 64 and of course again in 74, so that takes care of that)

Palio, where have you been since 2004. You already have enosis with greece. The real question is how do we enosisise Greece, GRoC, TRoC and Turkey all in one. When we all get into EU it will happen.

Turkey sold their rights on Cyprus back in 1878 to Great Britain. Why? They knew it was a matter of time that Cyprus will be reunited with the motherland, Greece. Just as Rhodes, and Crete. Since Fred doesn't understand it let make it as simple as I can:

John sells his car to Sally. Sally gives up her rights to Mark. John is a racist and hates Mark. He steals the car from Mark. Does John have any rights to the car? No, in most societies that is grand theft and John should go to prison.

That is exactly what happened to Cyprus. Turkey has no rights to the Cyprus question. They must stay out of it. Now and forever.
