The United Nations Spokesperson in Cyprus Jose Luis Diaz has rejected the allegations brought against the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Alexander Downer by some Greek Cypriot circles.
Mr Diaz said allegations that Mr Downer has business interests in Turkey are not true.
“Mr Downer has no business interests in either Turkey or Greece and has never in his life conducted any business with or in either of those countries” the UN Spokesperson said in a statement.
Diaz said that Mr Downer is a partner in the consultancy firm ‘Bespoke Approach’ which primarily operates in Australia but also in China and Indonesia.
He said the company has never been involved with any issues in relation to Turkey.
Political parties and the media in the Greek Cypriot Side have been continuing a campaign against Mr Downer since they claimed that Mr Downer was quoted as having described the DIKO and the EDEK parties as ‘rejectionist parties’.
