At a guess mate .. £850-900 pm for Islington , very slightly less for Finsbury Park.

I hear there's an over-supply of flats to let at mo.

How much is a bed-sit in London these days? Last time I was living in London (2002) 100 pounds per week seemed to be the going rate. Has the downturn made things cheaper?

My GC friend is finally back in his own home now but up until last week he was, or rather the council was, paying £680 a month for a bed-sit in Walthamstow....Smelly carpet, cockroaches and all.... I doubt that he will find anything in Islington for less than £1000 but could be wrong.

Rent boys are cheaper

I came to London in 1979 and paid 17 pounds a week for a bed sit in the borough of Hackney. I remember it seemed pricy at the time, especially as it had mushroom-like mould growing up one wall which I had to keep 'harvesting'. Compared to that, 100 pounds sounds like a small fortune, especially as we have been fed the message over the past two decades that inflation is very low.

I have a 2 bedroom flat I can let you have and as it's you it will cost you £2001 per month. It is walking distance from the Richmond upon Thames town centre and river front.

It is still the Maggie effect working its magic Tim...She sold off all the council flats and then rented them back again. There is such a shortage that it keeps prices up. The indian guy who owns the flats my GC friend rented has over 600 of them and wants more....Ready money from the councils.

I don't know what it is about Surrey that I detest so much, but wouldn't want to live there, sorry (unless you make that ₤1999.99).
