Three times a year, and yes I know there are more homeless immigrants than there were a decade ago.

I'd like to see the sewage system upgraded and an end to all the 'Do not put paper in the Toilet' notices almost everywhere. (Tho' I suspect it would drastically cut down work for plumbers who get called out to deal with blockages.)

They seem to have undertaken the task of putting all the electricity cables underground all over the place. I'd rather they had sorted out the antiquated sewage system.

Absolutley Gasman - this is a very valid point. We are now in the 21st century not the 1st!!!

I would also like to see Cyprus find a solution to the North/South problem.

This brought to mind a poem I saw in the Cyprus Times about 3 yrs ago. So I search for it and here it is:

Ode to the Drains of Cyprus
The beautiful island of Cyprus,
The land of many a God,
Would be truly wonderful,
If your paper went down the bog!
The sewage system in Cyprus,
Can be a right old caper,
It took brains to design their drains,
Shame they forgot the paper!
You can have fun in Cyprus,
There are so many things to do,
But Oh! how I wish they’d let me
Put my paper down the loo!
The ex-pats want me to live here,
But I don’t think I can,
Because they won’t allow me
To put my paper down the pan!
There are a few thing wrong with England,
Some would make you blush,
But at least when you go to the toilet,
You can give the paper a flush!
So if you go to Cyprus,
Please don’t get it wrong,
You can do almost anything,
Except put your paper down the John!!

Z4 - I cannot seem to find any humourous poems relating to the solving of the Cyprus Problem!
Will have to stick with the lavatorial humour!

Having been a 'trial' passenger at the New Larnaca airport recently I noted that there were no signs in the Toilets saying 'No paper to be flushed down' I think in a really smart and high tech international airport which Larnaca is now (very impressed) that I,m glad to see this. I have been in the 'ladies' many times over the years and listened to women tourists being put off by this.

But my real reason for posting would be to see an animal welfare Police set up and the adequate laws on the animals welfare being strongly enforced. Cruelty will never be totally eliminated, but decent rescue places well funded and proper punishments and bans on owning animals etc are easy to introduce.

Secondly I would happily pay more communal Tax just to enable the local municipality to collect the extraordinary amount of rubbish and litter just around our small community.

Then a small matter of maybe unclogging the court system for a small island such as Cyprus three years for some cases to be heard is OTT.

Thats it really, I love everything else.

I did the dummy run at the new Airport too. One of my complaints was that there was no water to the taps in the loos! Unless the airport builders have improved the underground sewage pipes leading from their loos to wherever it ends up, I expect the notices will go up. Or maybe they've installed those macerator thingies for all the loos there?
I'm really surprised that this issue isn't near the top of the agenda in Cyprus. Grubby little bins in the corner of loos in restaurants - and not all of them emptied regularly either. I can't be the only person who has seen the mountain of used loo roll spilling out of the bins and all over the floor. The only loos where this isn't a problem are all those where there is no loo roll in them to begin with!
I'd rather be able to flush paper down the loo than be able to drink the tap water if it was a choice. I can buy drinking water and I do because it is too warm from the tap anyway.
