Statement by the President of the RoC at the UN

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Statement by the President of the RoC at the UN

Postby Lit » Thu Sep 24, 2009 4:21 pm

Here is some of the President's speech at the UN:
Ladies and Gentlemen, I ask you: Is it not a paradox for a country that is a member of the Security Council not to recognize the Republic of Cyprus, a member state of the United Nations, the European Union and of all international organizations?

Is it not a paradox for a member of the Security Council to maintain occupation troops for 35 years on the territory of another UN member state, and a member state of the European Union?

Is it not a paradox to undermine the unity and the territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus by promoting the creation of a second state on the island in violation of Security Council Resolution 541 of 1983 which unanimously condemns the illegal UDI, calling it null and void, and calls on all states to respect the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus?

Yes, it is a paradox and it is also illegal. In fact it is an anomaly! Cyprus has never sought nor wishes to have hostile relations with its neighbour, Turkey. But it is our responsibility to defend the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of our state.

Nevertheless, I would like from this august body to express my readiness to initiate dialogue with the Turkish leadership, in parallel to our negotiations with the Turkish Cypriot leader, to share ideas about the future, which would greatly enhance the chances of a positive outcome to the negotiations.

Cyprus has consistently supported the accession of Turkey to the European Union, in the belief that the whole adaptation process and Turkey’s eventual membership would benefit our neighbours, our region and us. However, this support is not unconditional. Turkey should fulfil its obligations towards the Republic of Cyprus as well as towards the European Union.

Mr. President,

I would like to state one more time that our Turkish Cypriot compatriots are equal citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, and that I personally will strive consistently for their rights and for finding their rightful place in all organs of the state.

My political roots are in the Progressive Peoples’ Movement of my country which always stood by the side of our Turkish Cypriot compatriots for peace and harmonious co-existence. Nevertheless, the rights of our Turkish Cypriot compatriots cannot be implemented at the expense of the rights of the bigger community, which is the Greek-Cypriot community. There must be mutual respect. I want to assure you that I will spare no effort in order to achieve a balanced and just solution which would restore the rights of the people as a whole.

We have all paid a heavy price - human, political and economic - and continue to pay a heavy price. The profits of lasting peace will be beneficial for the people of Cyprus, of Turkey and for the peoples of our region as a whole.

Real political leaders are not the ones who think of the next election but of the next generation. We have the responsibility to work together to achieve a lasting peace in our region.

I wish to the family of Nations a successful conclusion of the deliberations of the 64th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

I thank you

Apart maybe from UK (the other Imperialists who occupy part of Cyprus) and certain individuals, which are the countries which Cyprus is "pissing off"?

I guess you must be reading too much British and Turkish press (the press of the Imperialists who occupy parts of our country). Because the vast majority of EU member states have absolutely no problem with Cyprus.

Why should they be pissed off with Cyprus anyway? For giving them a good reason to keep Turkey out of the EU? Most EU members (and the vast majority of EU citizens) are vary grateful for that!

Zan we are not worried it's your side that keep saying all the crap about the EU blaming Cyprus. I've not heard the German or french leaders blame Cyprus for anything. So yes lets see what happens? Time is running out for Turkey and Turks of Cyprus as you liked to be called.

I remember in 2004 after we rejected the biased annan plan and all those twats in Europe saying what they were going to do for the TC's. Has anything happened since then to ease isolation. NOT.

So keep trying your scare tactics. We are no fools. If it takes 100 years to get our land back then so be it. Get this into your thick head YOU WILL NEVER BE RECOGONISED UNLESS WE SAY SO.

Oh, so now it is now EU members, but people?

We will see who has no problem if the talks fail......

If the talks fail the problem will continue for all.

You think you will be rewarded because you will cause the talks to fail? In fact this attitude of yours proves who is going to be responsible for the failure of the talks: You, because you think you will be rewarded if the talks fail and therefore you have a motive for causing their failure.

With Annan plan you managed to gain a few points, but way way way less than what you were hopping for and absolutely nothing significant like recognition or direct flights. Now you are making it really easy for us to put you in the corner again by electing hardliners as your leaders and causing the talks to fail because you think you will gain from their failure. Both things will be very easy for us to show.

You should consider the era right after the Annan plan your best times. But as I said, even at your best times you didn't gain anything significant. Now those times are over for you. On the other hand, Annan plan proved to be a very small sacrifice for us in order to enter the EU, and now we will be using our EU powers more and more and make it even more difficult for you.

The ECJ in the Orams case showed that we now have the power to convict any of you in Cyprus courts and enforce the ruling in any EU country. So get ready zan, because we are coming after you. Maybe you should pack your bags and move to Turkey or another third world country were we will not be able to get you ... yet ;)

Chris asks the questions and he answers his own questions. He tried to create an impression as if the founders of RoC r GCs and TCs were a rebelling ethnic minority, Turkey exploited them and "invaded" a part of Cyprus.

No Chris, no. This political stance didn't work and won't work...

Agreed.

Word perfect speech.

Pres X gets to the heart of our Little Problem and puts the blame where it belongs - Turkey, and perhaps signals a future strategy aimed directly at Turkey rather than its Puppet Talat and these Waste of Time "talks" .
