Had it not been so effective during those hundreds of years of occupation, we would be all be Turks and there would actually be no problem in Cyprus.

There have been a number of threads directed by so called CG "intellectuals" who have moked the one institution that has preserved them.

You wouldn't even exist if it was not for Jesus Christ and our Church - we would be weak and the Cyprob would not even exist today.

We are Christians and that is our strength and even hundreds of years of islamic occupation did not change us!

This is a fantastic argument, so what you are saying is that if the church did not exist, there would be no Cyprus Problem today.
Well, we agree on that one so the only solution to this problem seems to me to ban religion from the whole of Cyprus.
Plroblem solved.

I blame the Ottomans again. They conquered Cyprus and rescued the Greek Orthodox church from oblivion - and if that was not enough allowed and encouraged the GO church to take the lead role in the government of the people of Cyprus.

You don’t need a church to come into contact with God so there goes the church’s religious worth, but as the first poster said it DID help Cypriots heaps during the dark Ottoman centuries. I can conclude that the Church seems to have a great social worth.

Show me any evidence that it was the GO faith that assisted us through centuries of occupation by maintaining our heritage.

You are presuming that all Greeks/Cypriots were religious.

Even the non religious attended the schools, but just because these young students were baptised does not mean they were religious or were GO Christians!

The Ancient Greeks and Cypriots were perfectly happy with Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, Aphrodite et al and they not only survived, but they flourished.

Christianity is not a strength. It is the kink in our armour. It is the destroyer of Hellenism as far as the purist is concerned.

Christostomos and the GO Church is also a liability to Cyprus whenever they interfere. I want to pull his beard!

I fight for Cyprus and not for the GO Church or its chain of expensive resorts on the coast.
