Another Damning ECHR Verdict For Turkey

Postby bill cobbett » Wed Sep 23, 2009 7:47 pm

Spent ages on the ECJ Site last night following the post New ECJ RULING .

No wonder I couldn't find it, it was another damning indictment of Turkey at the ECHR ...

http://www.cyprus-mail.com/news/main.php?id=47971

This from the Cyprus mail....

ECHR rules in favour of 18 Greek Cypriots
THE EUROPEAN Court of Human Rights (ECHR) yesterday ruled in favour of 18 Greek Cypriot appeals on occupied property cases, in a move described as ‘damning’ for Turkey
.

The development was deemed “a great success” by the lawyer of seven applicants, Achilleas Demetriades, who said this would finally bring an end to a cycle of 32 cases. There is just one left pending.

Also pending are the penalties that will be imposed on the Turkish government.

“It is a great success,” said Demetriades. “With this decision, the court will move on to the third phase of the procedure, which is ruling the compensations. I am expecting Turkey to request permission to appeal the case, as it did with the previous cases, but I don’t think this will be given.”

He said the compensation would most likely be announced in around a year from now.

“All our efforts our now centred on the hearing we will have on November 18, where the court is going to examine the legality and effectiveness of the Property Commission in the occupied areas,” said Demetriades.

Thanks for the correction. The news item was in Turkish and was turned off as soon as it came on (as I explained) Getting the right name of the court of justice was a bit dodgy.

Alls well that ends well. :?

Keeping the barbaric Turkish army on Cyprus is the greatest injustice the world allowed to happen. Nothing not even the Holocaust was worst. That is why the EU wants to make things right. Turks must leave Cyprus for once and for all or there will never be PEACE!

Since the Turkey Army "invaded", there has hardly been any fighting or bloodshed. I wonder what would have happened to the Turkish Cypriots if Turkey had not intervened!!

And saying that this is worse than Holocaust shows your lack of intelligence

Now you are talking about Akritas plan 2. Which is in the possession of RoC and is not about to be release any time soon. Freedom of information indeed.

nothing really. from a war the turks started in the first place we would of been much better off if turkey had not planted bombs for the tcs to make them think it was gcs... and when they invaded and there was peace there was no reason for them to demand teritorial changed then invade again. it was all turkeys plan to have an excuse to invade and split the island in two

London you really dont know what your talking about do you. In 1974 the GC's and TC's were not fighting each other. As you have been told above. The TMT were planting bombs in Nicosia and killing TC's and the balming GC's it is a well know fact.

So get your facts straight.
