Cyprus on 22 September 2029

Postby Omer Seyhan » Tue Sep 22, 2009 11:24 pm

I often wonder what Cyprus would be like if reunified in the future... How would the Govt react to any surviving paramilitary groups? Would we have tough politicians or lame ducks? Would we be like other states? Or would we still be arguing about our Greek / Turkishness?

Do you think this could be a probable news headline? Check it out...

Paramilitary gunmen shot dead in CSS ambush

Cypriot Secret Service (CSS) Agents involved in an undercover operation in Cyprus have shot dead two EOKA-C and two TMT-B gunmen and injured a third man who escaped. He is being sought by police following the incident which took place a few miles from Dhali.

No Cypriot National soldiers are believed to have been injured during the attack.

They were local men believed to be in their early twenties and who were known to be members of the paramilitary groups.

It is understood the CSS patrol, which has been operating in the area, came across the four gunmen who were both armed.

One is understood to have been holding an Armalite rifle and the other a shotgun.

The soldiers challenged both men and when they did not respond the patrol opened fire, killing the two men.

A third man escaped in a car and the soldiers believe they shot the driver.

The vehicle was later found abandoned a few miles away with blood stains on the seats.

It is not known if the CSS were lying in wait for the men but there has been increased covert activity by the security forces since the murder of three Cypriot students.

Separatist gunmen had opened fire on student gathering in Nicosia last month.

Cypriot Interior Minister Lady Elena Bozkurt Sharbel Richardson refused on comment on the incident but said: "Nobody has a right to divide the Cypriot nation. The unity of this nation is indivisible and the Cypriot national security forces reserve the right to respond to any external as well as internal threats to her security."

Richardon stated that, 2 underground paramilitary organizations have strong links with some internal circles and external backers."We have some strong evidences that anti-globalist Russians and Arabs r behind two paramilitary organizations. Their aim is to destabilize EU and stop globalization of the world."

On the other hand, Stella Ashford Tiblisi Ömer Hayyam Seyhani claimed that the aim of 2 underground organization is to divide Cyprus and politically annex it to their motherlands; namely Russia nad Lebenon.

NEWS FLASH

Russia rejects accusations by Cypriot Minister

Tough-nut Cypriot Minister Elena Bozkurt Sharbel Richardson indirectly pointed the blame to Moscow over the recent CSS shooting of paramilitaries in Dhali, Cyprus. The Minister summoned the Russian Ambassador to a meeting earlier today. Relations have been strained ever since Cyprus joined Nato.

Meanwhile, Cypriot National police have launched an investigation into the incident. Evidence has suggested a Russian or Arab link to the clandestine groups. However, Minister Richardson has put a media censure on publishing the precise details of Moscows involvement.

The Government's claims were vehemently rejected by Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Vladimir Grobelski.

Mr Grobelski said: "We would never dream of intervening into the affairs of other states. That would be so 20th century!" However, the ambassador echoed sharp criticism of the Cypriot Government for its involvement in Nato's war in Afghanistan. Cypriot involvement in Afghanistan led to the resignation of Prime Minister Osman Shirwan-Smith-Lanitis earlier this month.

Osman Lanitis resigned last month as Cyprus' prime minister after his government had suffered an unexpected defeat in parliament over its alliance with the United States and its role in Nato. Maroulla Turkay Shismanian-Johnson, who as Cyprus' president oversees the making and breaking of governments, is to open consultations on the political future today.

It was not ruled out that Mr Lanitis could be asked to form a new government, and a grouping of core parties in his coalition said last night that they were prepared to back him again. But his spokesman said: "He is ready to carry on as prime minister if, and only if, he is guaranteed the full support of all the parties in his majority from now on."
