The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Mehmet Ali Talat has voiced out that the Cyprus problem is no longer a problem to Cypriots only, but to the international community as a whole.

“It’s an international problem that is a matter to the whole world” Talat said.

Thus, there is no such a thing called ‘a Cypriot solution’ the President said, in his live interview to the TRT Turk Channel.
.

TRNC Presidential Spokesman has stated that President Mehmet Ali Talat’s words in Washington that ‘a Cypriot solution is not possible” was especially reflecting the current situation at the talks.

Hasan Erçakıca said that the President used the expression as he lost his belief that the solution of the Cyprus problem would not be possible without the support of the international community.

Speaking on Bayrak TV first channel today, Mr Erçakıca said President Talat’s words that ‘a Cypriot solution is not possible” came in response to the Greek Cypriot leader’s statement that he was against arbitration in the talks.

Underlining the need to evaluate a draft agreement to be put to the referenda as a whole, he said it wasn’t possible for both sides to accept everything put forward, adding that the support of the international community would be needed at this point.

He stated that there were indications that the United Nations would become more involved in the Cyprus negotiation process, giving the possibility for the UN Secretary General to have a trio meeting with Talat and Christofias in Cyprus as an example.

Asked to comment on the decisions taken by the Greek Cypriot National Council regarding the Cyprus issue and Turkey’s EU membership process, Mr. Ercakica said it seems that the current attitude of the Council would not make it possible for the Greek Cypriot leader to continue the negotiations.

He warned that the chaotic political situation on the Greek side could break off the talks.

TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat has met with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband at the UN headquarters in New York.

The President briefed Mr Miliband on course of the Cyprus negotiation process.

Mr Talat told reporters after the meeting that the British Minister expressed his country’s satisfaction over the two leaders’ decision to speed up the negotiation process.
Providing detailed information to the British Minister on course of the negotiation process which has been continuing since September last year, the President told the minister that he and the Greek Cypriot Leader would meet twice a week to accelerate the talks and bring a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem.

During his meeting with Mr Miliband, the President underlined the need for the United Nations to play a more active role in the negotiation process, urging Britain to take an initiative on the issue.

Mr Talat also reminded the Minister that his country – as a guarantor power – has responsibility on the solution of the Cyprus question, adding that Britain should treat equally to the two sides on the island.
Today, the President will hold discussions with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt and the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.

He will also meet with Alexander Razinski, a member of the American-Turkish Council.

The President is expected to meet with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on Saturday.

Talat has proven to be a wanker yet again. I think Mr Christofias ought to stop meeting with him and he needs to rally up the UN for a solution based on the fact that the barbaric state of Turkey is violating human rights of all Cypriots Greek & Turkish speaking both in the occupied area and the free area of the Island.
