I have never known it to be derogatory, not nowadays. Very seventies mainly used in the USA with reference to people with white skin.

i dont even like the idea of saying "black" and "white", it doesnt matter what colour our skin is, we are all made the same and are equal

I am not white nor black but am willing to learn what you call each other. To be honest I could not give a toss what you think of what I write.
