In the case of Varnava and Others v. Turkey

ECHR finds Turkey guilty

"STRASBOURG - The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on Friday found Turkey guilty in the case of a number of missing Greek Cypriots. It also ordered damages to be paid to their families.

Friday’s judgment of the Grand Chamber was in the case of Varnava and Others v. Turkey which dates back to 1990."

Again? Why I'm shocked. Is anyone else surprised by this verdict?

Only the "thieving scumbags" and Turk-supporting TCs seem to be "surprised"!

What a barbarous nation we have to deal with ....

They submitted that the obligation to carry out a thorough and effective investigation into a complaint of a disappearance while in the custody of security forces continued until an explanation as to what happened to the missing detainees was forthcoming.

Radical stuff. Thus on this reasoning any state authority which cannot account for the fate of an individual within its jurisdiction may expect to be held liable for failure to conduct a definitive investigation. A state authority which genuinely does not know where an individual is or what has happened to them must not, on this account, say so. It must not say "dunno" even if it is true. It must say something like "yeh, we're still looking" even if it's not true.

This case might have great consequence though ironically, because Turkey clearly doesn't care too much about it, not so much for Turkey.

Turkey was found guilty of what? The below? Please don't make urselves ridiculous by trying to twist the court ruling becuse such attitudes r harmful on our individual relations.(if there ever has been even just to lil degree)

“(The Court) holds by sixteen votes to one that there has been a continuing violation of Article 2 of the Convention on account of the failure of the authorities of the respondent State to conduct an effective investigation into the fate of the nine men who disappeared in life-threatening circumstances,” said the 58-page-long judgment.

It is worth bearing in mind that whilst this case may be a first for citizens of Cyprus, it is not a first for Turkish citizens. There have been numerous cases taken by Turkish citizens to the ECHR against Turkey and in which in all but a very very small minority of cases Turkey has been found in violation of a number of ECHR articles including all those listed in the Varnava et. al. case.

Have been trying to find a response by the Fascist Military "Government" of Turkey to this, but there's no mention of it in the Turkish press.

Are Turkish Newspapers censored to this extent?

Anyone help with a news item from Turkey to see how this was reported?
