"Greek Cypriot raid on the Turkish military post"

Turkish Cypriot daily AFRIKA newspaper (05.07.05), reports in its front page, under banner headlines that five Greek Cypriot soldiers last week had infiltrated in the Turkish occupation lines, had approached to a Turkish military post, and attacked the two sentries on duty.

The paper alleges that the incident happened in Nicosia on the confrontation line and that the Turkish soldiers were badly beaten to the level that they are being hospitalised.

The report claims that people in Nicosia are worried and expect an announcement from the Turkish occupation forces to clarify the situation. AFRIKA reports that the raiders managed to escape without being caught.

Now how can people expect the Turkish forces to leave the island when they get attacked?????? You cannot make an army move out from a place where it is being attacked!!

IF this really happened, how come I haven't seen it reported elsewhere? I would have thought the Turkish press would have this all over the place and that Turkey would be making representations to the UN about Cyprus' aggressive behaviour. Something doesn't quite add up. I'm surprised Afrika published this, it's something more expected from Volkan et al.

Is Afrika not the paper that the Grey Wolves love to hate? Or are you suggesting that the paper functions as a 'double agent' so to speak?

Oh God, not another Cyprus conspiracy theory to get to grips with

I don't know... It can be argued that the mission of AFRIKA is actually to divide TC left. They are extremely critical of anyone who does not share their beliefs.

bro

this type of thing has been going on for a long time. Border guards.

i have a friend who was a gc border guard, one night he crossed and stole the turkish flag. in the morning he waved it to the turkish border guards. his commondant from greece was proud of him and gave him two weeks leave. The gc commander sent the military police after him and he got two months jail.

these border guard bravado things always go on, tomorrow the turks will do something to the gcs. The sad thing is when it spreads to civillians, and they try to do what the border guards do.
