Ethnicity Map of Europe, 1896

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Ethnicity Map of Europe, 1896

Postby kurupetos » Tue Sep 15, 2009 3:05 pm

The british-made map below shows the ethnic groups in 1896. The inhabitants of Cyprus are clearly identified as Greeks (colour & Gr.).
Can someone explain what happened in 1960 and Cyprus was not allowed to unite with Greece?

Yes, geo-strategic interests of the big powers my friend. That is the only reason Cyprus was not united with Greece.

Why are we talking about 1896??

Surely we should concentrate on 2009!!!

It is not possible to forget the water that has passed under the bridge, but for the sake of all of us, and our descendants, we should be trying to find a way through our problems to a better future.

This is a bit too philosophical for me and now my brain hurts!

That was 1896. As Harold Wilson once said, a week is a long time in politics.

This is exactly the reason G/cs have no any real benefit to sign a surrender agreement with the invasion forces.

PS - I wouldn't push this 1896 map too far if I were you. If you look carefully, it would appear that Greece has to give back territory to Bulgaria.
