How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The military doesn't look for support from outside! It does what it can to keep the country secular and in the way of Ataturk. If the army was to seek for support from outside Turkey would be long gone into a shithole!!

I don't think that Turkey would turn into an islamic state, because there are a lot of people against an islamic system along with a few followers of Erdogan. The army often has the power to secure secularism, the way generals and high ranked military officials are educated make the army have power. The generals would use any power they have to protect secular system and the safety of the country, that is the way they are educated!

Assuming the Military did not have the power to secure the securalism of Turkey do you think the country would turn into an islamic state?

Probably yes. But pardon me your questions are a bit ... how can I say?
You can't simply make an assumption how the things would go in Turkey if the military didnt have that power since political power of the military
has been a fact in Turkey for a long time and it is also appreciated widely amongst the ordinary people. Your question is like designing a new "history".

I mean suppose Erdogan finally gets his freedom for relegion through the EU what would be the big deal? Perhaps Turkey will have some islamic schools, some women will start wearing the scurf, after they have it all out of their chest they will get bored and forget the whole nonsense I think. What is your opinion?

MitAtCyp,

Many people in Turkey already wear islamic dress. This is not a problem. The problem is the risk of enforcing of this by an authority in the future. On the hand, if Turkey approaches EU by either membership or someting else, E.U will make sure that Turkey doesn't switch to an Islamic state. You know when that fascist was elected in Austria, EU did not let him actually to take the goverment. EU would be using its economic and political power to prevent this.

No there wont be a coup. This is just sensationalism to me. The army realises the importance of stability for political and economic progress.

but if the generals do make a coup ,they do know this will isolate turkey not only from eu but from other countries also. even if turkey does have problems joining eu they will not dare do anything.......
although i have a suspicion that the usa will like it,a strong ,reliable, cooperative and powerful goverment in turkey is what they want....

I agree with detailer and I think Turkey has a long way to go before joining EU, I believe that it won't even happen, the EU does not want Turkey and the military knows that. If it is needed there WILL be a coup but it is in the hands of the military.
