Someone did say something when we were walking out of this restaurant at Governor Beach but when I turned around and ask him to repeat it in english he just walked away....i just wanted to know what he said...

Don't listen to them ... one is a Jew and the other a skinflint self-obsessed Brit who is here to rip off Cypriots ....

Always be polite whilst abroad (think Mark Twain) ....

Excuse me miss no personality...dont tell me im in cyprus to rip the cypriots off, we all know the cypriots can be very jelous and feel the need to rip off people who go on their turf, Im waiting the date for a court case for a cypriot who took the piss and stole over 30,000 Euros.
Read the thread where I have stated what was left to cancer research then call me a skint flint.
your jelous as your a penniless scrimper, and your type cant haddle the fact that people have money..typical cypriot on the cadge. Now shut up and go to the library and boff it by reading about cookery and politics and cross stitch. then treat yourself to a booofan hair cut,

Hi JB

The US has a very different tipping culture to most of the rest of the world; in the US most waiters/waitresses derive their income from tips; elsewhere they are, mainly, a bonus.

So tipping is done at a much lower level. I tend to 'round up' the bill (around 10%). Many tavernas here are family run (and the serving staff are the owners) by some logic (?) I tend to tip less in this case.

If it is bad service do not feel obliged to tip at all - otherwise tipping has no meaning as a reward.

I tend to tip the guys working in the gas stations (1€), they don't get paid to well but always seem pleasant and helpful.

Tipping is not unheard of here. In my experience, you certainly will not be exposed to verbal abuse if you do so. You are more likely to be thanked.

Here's a tip from me:

Your vulgar displays of "ostentatious wealth" merely show how uncouth you are and will not buy you popularity, here!

One is a Jew, was that with reference to me ?
I always thought I was extremely polite and generous to those I receive good service from ! I will take another long look in the mirror when I have a minute.

Yes, cause I know you're big enough to take the stereotype reference :D I was actually thinking of a "Curb your enthusiasm" episode where he over-tips a waiter and tries to get the excess back ... but I don't have time to look for it (actually there were two tipping jokes :? ).

madam if you throw names at people you have to expect a non respectable response.
like I have said before I am certaninly not here to gain popularity at all.
If you have not noticed the monster in me only comes out when you have thrown sarcastic remarks at me..i defend myself, and you critisise me further, cant win.
respect me and I will respect you  if not get out of my face

May I combine the two threads of "Tipping in Cyprus" and "Cyprus Trash" by asking those interested to read " Flytipping by J R Hartley"....
