So is there any overriding present day influence from colonisation by Turks in the native population?

You seem to fail to realise that means the present day genetic stock of Cyprus is descended from Greece. And I, and thousands more (e.g. Nikitas on this forum) are living proof of the continuity of this line ...

If you are not Greek, you are part of the latter day, recent, invaders ... Turks ... who have not (yet) left a DNA fingerprint!

Your whole premise is based on the fact that "past colonization of the island by the Greeks" was a MYTH!

I take it that now, you have accepted the error of your ways and acknowledge that the island was colonised by Greeks. Then we'll move on to just how many Greeks still make up the bloodlines in Cyprus! 8)

Here's a recent scientific study from which you can gain alternative comfort, Oracle.

I'm sure the same applies for mixed Cypriot/Greek people, especially the part about heterosis.

Oracle, if anything it is unkie GR that is living proof of Cypriot superiority!

A Greek-Slav-Ottoman mongrel like yourself simply CANNOT compete.

Btw, when you address a descendant of the ancient Choirokitians you should always stand attention so you need to get a tall keyboard stand ASAP. Thanks.

All rise… (as I exit this thread)

Not recent my dear, but virtually as old as Mendel. However, I am not so superficial (as the Welsh!).

Hybrid vigour (so far studied in e.g. plants, salamanders, dogs extensively) is only true in the first generation.

However, in Humans, I would hope intelligence was the predominant factor in mate choice rather than skin colour or looks.

Don't worry, I'm sure Ms/Mr Right is out there waiting for you ..

There was a study article published at politis paper 1 year ago claiming that a significant percentage of Greekcyrpiots have phoenician origin. Due to these evidences that appear daily I would be very interested to know what is the % of the GreekCypriots who have Greek origin ? The University of Cyprus should undertake this research as it will contradict our distorted history books.

It is amazing that the Hellenistic culture, language and identity survived so many invasions and occupations in Cyprus! 8) So what makes Hellenism in Cyprus so strong?

Poor Paphitis… what else could he post to save face?

better position than to support that G/cs DNA coming from denosauvres

The percentage from Phoenician influence was reported as being 7% which is very low considering we were such close neighbours (closer than Greece) and for so long. I would have expected it to be greater since we now know, from antiquities, that the Cypriots and Phoenicians traded extensively.

One set of figures looking at some specific DNA, unique to Greeks and their descendants, which was found also in Greeks of Sicily occurs at the same frequency in Cypriots (something like 40%).
