Agreed!

It is also no accident that Hellenism is the one and only surviving influence in Cyprus... So why is that so? :)

You also can't differentiate between a Greek or Cypriot, apart from dialect. And even that is not so between Cypriots and Greeks from Crete, Rhodos and Kos.

You mean like the “Hellenic” alphabet/language which came from…

Phoenician -> Cypriot - > Greek

No!

That's not what I mean.

What I mean is how Cyprus has offered so much to Hellenism, language is only one small part of the equation.

Cypriots need to be proud, because without Cypriots, the Hellenic culture would not exist as we know it today.

And it just amazes me how this culture continues to burn brightly with so many obstacles in its way. A true miracle!

The only thing Hellenes and Cypriots need to conquer now is the traitorous and villainous church, and then our true identity as Hellenes will be complete....

That's what I thought when I drove past the ruins of Choirokitia......spanking a dead donkey indeed!

But Hellenism is alive and kicking...look around you! Anorthosis (whom you support) and Apoel are testament to this as well as 90% of all Cypriots... 8)

You are a closet Hellene GR!...and who knows what else...

90% of the players of the teams you mentioned are not Cypriots unless the answer to "Are Greek Cypriots white?" is no!

Get Real, by the time the Phonecians came to Cyprus and established a colony in a small part of the island (southeast) Cyprus had already been a Hellenic island for several centuries with several Greek city states. In other words, the Phonecians were a minority in Cyprus right from the begging, and therefore it is natural they were gradually assimilated with the rest of the population.

http://www.kefk.net/Webtravel/GR/Antike ... echen1.jpg

That's ironic, because the Phoenicians actually developed the modern alphabet and spread it through trade to their ports of call.

That is not accurate. The Phoenician alphabet had only consonants and not vowels. The modern Alphabet contains both, and it was created by the Greeks, who used the Phoenician alphabet as the basis. (and the Phoenicians had used prior writing systems in order to create theirs - they didn't invent it out of nothing)

In fact a theory made by a prominent scientist suggests that the Greek alphabet was developed in Cyprus. The Cypriots were using the Cypriot syllabary to write their language (Greek). When the Phonecians came to Cyprus and the Cypriots started to interact with them, the Cypriots modified the Phonecian alphabet to be used with their own language and created the Greek alphabet.

A classics and linguistics scholar has found a bridge between the pre-alphabetic scripts of the ancient Greeks of Cyprus and the Greek alphabet -- and argues that the Mediterranean island is therefore most likely the place where the Greek alphabet was invented.

It has been well documented that the Greeks adapted the familiar script still used today from the alphabet of another people -- the Phoenicians. But "one foot also rests on a shoulder of the syllabic script of Cypriot Greeks,"

Except in Apoel's case, as almost 50% of the players are actually Cypriot. Professional football teams are the same all over the world. The majority of players are too often foreign and not home grown.

But in any case, I was referring to the clubs and the spectators themselves.

Are the Phoenicians and Celts related?

The Phoenicians and the Celts may have originated in the Indus Valley, and also the Knossus Civilization of Crete, circa 2600 BC, plus perhaps the Sumerians, who came by sea to Sumer around 3800 BC. Or... perhaps the Phoenician, but NOT the original "Celts" were from the Indus Valley, and today's Celts are actually a mixture of the Phoenicians plus a "pre-Celtic" group. This and many other related questions remain open.
The following information asserts the above idea and excerpts are presented for debate.

The above is from the dipshits website http://phoenicia.org/, that is Zalloua website. So both Phoenicians and Celts are from India. The orignal inhabitants of India were from Africa.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/07/24/2635830.htm?section=justin

Zalloua is behind the National Geographic article.

From the said dipshits website:

major conclusion reached that relates to the Lebanese indicates that they belong to the "older" Mediterranean substratum. This means that the Lebanese share the same genetic identifiers like the Macedonians* (Only Hellens can be Macedonians), Iberians (including Basques), North Africans, Italians, French, Cretans, Jews, Anatolians (aboriginal Turks  ), Armenians and Iranians.

But dipshits, Cretans/Cypriots/mainland Greeks and Italians group together. :D

So Greek Cypriots are what? Black or Yellow? Cypriots are Caucasian, Mediterranean people, just like the rest of Greeks, and the other ethnicities made up by Mediterranean people. So no surprises here since Cypriots are native of Cyprus.

Yes we are Meds mixed with Alpines, just like most of Europe.
