While having exclusive rights for Cyprus does help, there is nothing to stop someone from purchasing the product from another EU distributor and selling them here. Exclusivity ain't what it used to be.

Although most of Tim Drayton's comments were correct, the civil service here is not quite as helpful as he suggested. It took my company 3 months to get a name registered and that was with loads of "mesa".

Thank you for your vote of confidence. I have noticed that not everybody on this forum shares my rose-tinted view of the Cyprus civil service. I have in the past had dealings with public services in places like Turkey, Germany, Qatar and Libya, and I can assure you that you get a more helpful, efficient and friendly service in government offices here than you do in any of those places. It is all relative.

We had sole rights to sell a German product in Cyprus two years ago. We noticed three individuals selling the same product in Limassol and Nicosia. They were buying the products from other dealerships in the UK and Italy and selling via their outlets in Cyprus.
A few phone calls, three letters and two months later their products were withdrawn from the Cypriot market place. So in short Sole Rights means just that, and to top it all the UK and Italian outlets selling the product to Cyprus lost their dealerships.
