"Rephrase that, what happens to the dog when hunting season ends?
What a waste of money, like throwing a dog down the drain "

Baby, at the end of hunting season these dear dogs (dear in all sense of the word) get busy producing some very valuable puppies! You do not throw such dogs down any drain. The most valuable dog I ever met, a German Short Hair, cost his owner 40 000 USD and lived to a ripe old age and enjoyed many bitches off season.

Have you not heard of stud fees!

A good hunting dog is a treasure. No one would ever let one go.

The rage these days are GPS collars used to located hunting dogs that have strayed too far or have been stolen. In Greece a GPS collar is about 750 Euro. Not the kind of trinket you hang on a being you do not value!

Hare tracking dogs are the most valuable. It is most unwise to approach a kennel with hare dogs unless you knoe the owner and have his permission. My friend in Trikala has trained Rottweilers guarding his hare dogs.

My cocker is not of that caliber, but she is a superb tracker even at her age. He who messes with my dog messes with a lot more than he has ever bargained for. In fact she is so good that I do not take her hunting, she would make it too easy.

Sorry if I had upset you but I was refering to the problem which is in cyprus regarding roaming dogs.
I have seen them many a time on the highway where they have been let out on purpose.
I have two rottweilers too, best dogs ever...

I have a peg dog, Drakeshead lab, extremely steady. Lacks the hunting skill of a Spanial but will retrieve anything at the command of 'fetch on'.

I seem to have failed with my retrieve training. My cocker will not let go, in fact she gets quite aggressive even at the suggestion that she should release. It takes some diplomacy and patience till she eventually tires and lets the dummy drop. This is the result of children being allowed to condition a dog when she was with previous owners.

So well trained was the dog that he was actually capable of assisting his master in completing certain small articles.

I first heard of the dog's ability when I visited a friend in a nearby village and resolved to visit the farm.

What I saw was the most amazing feat (performed by a dog) I have ever observed, I will remember it all my life.

I daresay THAT dog would be well worth £10,000, so unbelievably clever was he at what he did, coupled with the speed in which he did it.

I just cannot to this day believe what I saw him do, absolutely fantastic. (IMHO)

Sorry, forgot to mention the breed, just an ordinary scruffy mongrel, quite extraordinary.

Yes, kicked it in the nuts and it made a bolt for the door........

dog prices

Postby pkb1 » Sat Sep 12, 2009 11:33 am

i was offered £10,000 for my young beagle at Crufts 2 yrs ago! i would never part with her but she has a valuable pedigree, in the UK her puppies would fetch about £1,700 each........i probably will never breed her here, she attracts a lot of attention when we are out [ from mainly Cypriots] who think she might be a hunter, but she'd die of fright at the sound of a gun!..........lol brilliant show dog though, glad to say almost an international champion now too....so its not just hunters worth the high stakes!
