Of course you are not just paying for the coffee you are paying for the ambiance so in essence its not just a coffee that you are being served.Personally pretentious places are not my scene , but there again Im almost 64 and a Cypriot.
One of my favourite places in Limassol is the newly establish bar /restaurant next to the peer opposite the main car park. Not certain what they charge for coffee , I'm more a wine /beer man and I would not scrutinize the prices since I only visit once in a long while.
Tourists however would find 7.50 euro for a coffee extravagant . As Tim says the old town has many traditional coffee shops that charge much less , 1 euro I beleive , surrounded by the salt of the earth type of people not the least pretentious and mostly characters in their own right.

Allos tsingounis. If your dole payment cnnot handle it stay home. Here is a coupon from Alphamega:
http://www.alphamega.com.cy/grocery-offers Illy Coffee black no sugar 150ml 1+1 FREE

In Sydney a good meal for two could set you back $300 + a bottle of decent local Cab Sav $120 + two coffees $11.

I have just now called him and he told me that he paid EURO 15.00!!!

We had a double Greek coffee, a frape and a bottle of water.!!!

Average cost of above in Athens is about EURO 7-8

AHA! Look, this is the sad reality of Limassol these days- I actually know the guy running Cento pretty well and I still won't go. You weren't ripped off for being a tourist, these are the horror stories in a lot of places.
Lanitis lemonade 7 euro
Shot whisky 12 euro
Anyone with a brain has ended up restricting themselves to a few bars and cafes with reasonable prices

If you are a Cypriot ok next time you can go to Fanis but if you are a tourist you will not come again in Cyprus and problem is solved.

Yes! I've put this argument but had it rubbished by Oracle who maintains that Cyprus attracts a better class of tourist - the high end of the tourist trade. lol!

I don't think she has taken a walk round the Tourist Areas in recent years. High end my arse!

You have reminded me of my Bank Manager at the Bank of Cyprus. He is a real character. We were discussing the cost of coffee and soft drinks in the Tourist Area. He called his secretary in to ask her how much for a coffee at one of the trendy coffee shops. She said about 7.50.

He laughed and said 'it's still only 60 cents in my village!'

Why to speak Greek?!!!!because by grandfather or grandmother has the right to go to any coffe shop in their country and order their coffee in the only launguage they can speak-Greek.

It was a very funny story in Paphos many years ago. I was with my mother in law (mainlander Greek) and others in a cafeteria in Paphos. My mother asked the waiter a hot chockolate (but in Greek of course). He could not understand and suddently. like he discovered gold, scream. ohh.. hot schockolate you mean.!!!!I asked him from where he was coming from and i surprised to hear that he was from Panagia village. I was so angry with him and asked him whether his mother in Panagia is calling the sokolata -chocolate.He then learned Greek in five mnts. All others on the table had noit any problem with their Greek language.
