I know Paris, been there several times and it is my favorite big city. But most of all I love the countryside. The Auvergne is neat, especially when you travel southward and reach the summit and start descending southwards. You leave behind the country of fresh cream and wheat, and you suddenly see cypress trees, vignards and olive groves. "Ici c'est le pay du vin" said a French guy, and you really feel it. Wine country, Mediterranean!
Then further south is Roussillon which I also know well, a little village Lodeve, where I met an olive skinned lady with silver ear rings. And from there to the French Spanish border it reminds me of Cyprus, or rather what Cyprus would be if we took care of it.
Eastwards to the Italian border is more affluent, grand. Nice and Cannes are magnificent. And if you turn north a few miles you come to lavender country, an area as big as Mesaoria planted with lavender and othe raromatic herbs. The town of Grasse is the perfume center of France and one of the neatest places on earth.
Monte Carlo is not France legally but pretty similar and the place just reeks of money. All nouveau riche Cypriots should be forced to spend a day in Monte Carlo to cut them down to size.
So what is your favorite place in France? In case you have not guessed, I love the place.

Once you work out what a Casino is you'll be fine.

It is a big country, and everyone has a favorite region, but their Mediterranean regions are a revelation. Imagine Cyprus really looked after, cleaned up, the rough edges softened and loved by the people who live there. That is southern France.
I think I must go there soon. Been away too long.
