I know that quite a few people from certain Eastern European countries that have recently joined the EU have come to Cyprus in search of work. A small but growing number of these are ending up homeless and destitute because they cannot find work. Cyprus has a large foreign workforce many of whom are EU nationals from low-wage countries like Romania and Bulgaria or are from poor south Asian countries. These people work for little money and so wages for unskilled jobs are low. There is some low-paid seasonal work in hotels and restaurants during the summer season, but that is ending now. Unless you have a special skill that is in demand here in Cyprus, I would suggest that you look elsewhere. If you are a Spanish citizen, you have the whole of the EU to chose from.
