In the UK the local authoities clear all the rubbish away - wasn't there a thread recently about the amount rubbish piles in Cyprus?

I wouldn't deny that there are pockets in the major cities of the UK that can be described as shitholes, but ...

Troodos vs Highlands of Scotland
Akamas vs Lake District
Mayfair/Marylebone vs central Nicosia
Paphos vs Bournemouth
Ayia Napa vs Brighton
Ledra Street vs Oxford Steet
Longleet Park vs Limassol Zoo

I would not make sweeping generalisations like "Cyprus is a shithole", but the best of the UK is much better than the best of Cyprus.

It is good to see a Brit defending his/her country for a change, rather than just constantly slagging it off like some unpatriotic fools on this thread.

Yeah, we all love it so much that we live in Cyprus!

Wow, 60 million Brits live in Cyprus? So who are the people living in Britain, Cypriots? :?

Where did I say all the people on this thread love Britain? In fact I said exactly the opposite so your comment is irrelevant. I was referring to Me Ed's defence of Britain and that it made a nice change to Brits constantly slagging off their own country.

I was born and live in the UK and am of Cypriot origin ... I believe the technical term is "Charlie".

I love both Cyprus and the UK and both have very good but different things to offer someone looking to live there.

I am not so much defending the UK, but responding to elements on this forum that make sweeping uneducated statements about a place, like calling it a shitehote.

I saw the programme last night and as it happens that the UK has too much water (a situation Cyprus can only dream of). Too much water overwhelms and clogs up the sewage system and as a last resort the water companies can legally pump the excess into the sea. However the water companies have been abusing this facility, rather than investing in proper counter-measures.

I guess that's what you get when you sell your precious resources to foreign companies, particularly the Frenchies.

I'm in complete agreement with you. Both Cyprus and the UK have plus and minus points.

I was referring to your question about 60 million Brits and pointing out that I wasn't talking of the whole population of the UK, just those posting on this thread. Is that clear now?

Ok, let's start from the beginning CBBB.

I commented on how refreshing it was seeing Me Ed defending the UK from ignorant people that call the whole of the UK "a shithole", as happened on this thread. You then stated "Yeah, we all love it so much that we live in Cyprus". I presumed "we all" meant British people, because I had already made it clear that not everyone on this thread loved Britain, by calling them "unpatriotic", indeed, that was the point of my post! You then stated that you were referring to the people on this thread. So I said your comment is irrelevant then, because I already made that point! Hence I was stating how Me Ed's comments were nice to hear for a change! Is that clear now?
