Dear Piratis

I said "I could call myself a Martian, but just my saying it or willing it doesn't make it so!"

And your reply was:

So basically what everybody calls himself doesn't matter, right?

No that is not right; it is the opposite of right, it is wrong! If I call myself a Martian it doesn't make me a Martian, unless I was born on the planet of Mars. So calling myself a Martian, when I am not a Martian, does matter, it matters a great deal.

It is about being accurate and I note that despite your puerile play on the "spunky" nature of my name, you haven't actually provided any supporting evidence to show your "Greekness," other than;

"you think you are one, so therefore you must be one!"

Frankly you can call me what you like, what you choose to call me is of no consequence or importance to me.

Re Deported,

having failed to leave Cyprus when my residency was rescinded, without reason or notice and I was given 14 days to leave.

Without Reason?
Your reason is you failed to Leave Cyprus in accordance with your visa requirements

Without Notice?

You were given 14 Days. How long did you want? 18 Months.

I hope your lawyer is smart enough to get some money in trust.

Dear Agios Amvrosios

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but an even more dangerous thing, is a person who knows little of the facts, but which limited knowledge doesn't stop them forming/offering an (incorrect) opinion.

Without Reason? Your reason is you failed to Leave Cyprus in accordance with your visa requirements

I was a resident, therefore my "visa" as you call it was a pink slip, not a "visa" at all; not a visa but a residency.
A residency (not a visa) that was withdrawn, two years after it was issued and three years before it was due to expire, without a single reason and giving me just 14 days to remove; myself, my wife, our pet, three cars, a house full of furniture and other household effects, to close up three businesses, sack 12 staff, etc from the island.

The letter informing me of the decision to rescind my residency was wrongly addressed (immigration’s fault, surprise, surprise,) so I received the letter on the 24th and as the copy of the report below shows, I wasn't even afforded the luxury of a generous 14 days, instead I was asked to leave immediately

"The alien referred to in the present file was invited and attended at our offices and after being informed on the matter of the attached letter no. 21 of the Immigration Officer, he was advised to depart from Cyprus immediately." Taken from "Page1, Exhibit VII, Immigration File 2"

Don't worry about my financial future, or that of my lawyer, Nicos Anastasiades, both he and I are wealthy enough for the long haul and like my extremely wise mother would always say; "don't get mad, get EVEN!"

Brian Semmens,

This is a forum discussing the Cyprus problem. It is not a forum in which we are discussing our personal problems. You told us the problem you had with the Cyprus government. Fair enough! If things are as you describe them, then I feel sorry about what happened. However, we only know what you told us, i.e, only one side of the story. We are not a court to judge who is right and who is wrong. There are courts that can deal with your issue, including the ECHRs. I suggest you proceed there in order to resolve your differences with the RoC, if you feel you have been mistreated. There are thousands of British residents in Cyprus and there are also hundreds of British people who run businesses here. Presumably they are also competing with other Cypriots in their sectors. Yet no one else has been deported in the way you described.

I repead, this is a Cyprus problem forum.

Sorry, but you are mistaken

Dear Kifeas

Two points only:

1. I was replying to a post from another member who was stating incorrect information. I was not seeking to advertise my "problem"

2. You wrote "Yet no one else has been deported in the way you described." However three Britons (myself being one of them) were deported in the space of just one month in 2001 from Cyprus, two on the same plane and all three, mere hours before thier court cases were due to be heard. Can you see a pattern emerging? One of the men was deported because he was a business rival to a builder.

Deporting people before their cases are heard is a common enough practise in Cyprus; see below an extract from the Cyprus Mail.

Sorry the article is a)huge b)does not belong to this section of the forum. Can be posted in other sections.Copy sent to you by PM

DeportedFU2Cyprus,

I have some problem with the English language. I know what deported and Cyprus means, but I don't know what FU2 means. Do you mind clarifying?

By the way why do you live in Portugal? Were you deported from UK too?
