Will Greek Cypriots ever take part of the blame?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

 If Turkish Cypriots were to confess their wrong-doings would they finally get a recognized TC state? :?

Man… I’m starting to have premature ejaculations! :D

Confess your sins o’ Cypriots, and you shall be redeemed!!!

Could this nutty professor be God in disguise? :?

GR what is your problem? Anytime such articles appear, you start to spout total crap! Take it seriously for once.

Sorry Umit, but the notion that upon one side’s confession all would be hunky dory was too much for me to ignore!

GR, in a purely TC point of view, this article conveys the TC version of post 63' history. Which is, once the 13 points could not be passed, TC MP's were "forced" out of parliament. The author also mentions an armed wing of GC's, unofficially being led my Makarios against TC's, we refer to it as EOKA, without categorizing it with any distinction to the prior. TC's claim that there was a systematic policy of deprivation towards them in all aspects of day to day life. Which is the jist of the article.

Now the question about coming clean. I personally think it's far more important then any political negotiation for a settlement. I would have liked Talaturi and Chris to have sat down and provided us with an unbiased as possible common history, one we cannot be proud of but one that we would be proud of for having the balls to admit past wrongs. Understanding and learning from the past is the only way of creating empathy between both sides, it's also the only solid guarantee we can have to all living as "Cypriot's", in any future settlement.

Umit, let me ask you something. Do you think that the privileges given to the 18% of TCs with the 1960 constitution were fair and that GCs had no right to want any changes?

The TCs often protest saying that "the problem didn't start in 74". But then they also make the same kind of mistake, claiming that the problem started in 63. It didn't. The same way that the TCs ask from GCs to see the history before 74, are the TCs also willing to see the history before 63? And are the TCs willing to accept their own share of blame for the 63-74 period?

By the way, Christofias has already accepted past wrongs of our side and if he finds some response (so far he didn't) he could move even further.

He went further and stated that we have treated our TC compatriots inhumanely in the past and that we exhibited a racist attitude. These are facts that can be easily checked out.

Another fact that can be checked out is that Iraklidis is an intellectual clown. He writed for a major Greek daily and his writings can be used to verify his quality as a historian and analyst. As for Cyprus, he knows nothing, but pretends he knows a lot.

have not read anything by the man you are referring to but by what yard stick are you calling him a clown....It is quite clear that the Greek side has duped its people into a false history and a holier than thou attitude attitude so that ANYONE with a different story to tell is called a fool and a lier.....Maybe the great Greek dynasty can claim him in years to come as a GREEK hero that was lost in his time...

No Zan it the turks that have duped you into a false history. Lets get that straight. You started the trouble in the 60's.

Big mistake imo for Christofias to have made any such statement. Sure, in an atmosphere of "truth and reconciliation" by both sides it would be the right thing to do. Because Turks do find it difficult to admit to any past faults, it's part of the nationalism and myth of Turkish historical infallibility. And what they'll do now is say, "You see everyone, the GC's admit they were responsible for everything.'

Christofias is living in a world of illusion and speaks only for himself and few others when making such statements - all polls show that only a very small percentage of GCs currently support his strategy and actions, particularly on the Cyprus problem.

What do Greek Cypriots have to admit of doing? They fought for their freedom from England during EOKA. Did they every hurt one Turk during that war? In 1964, Turkey got involved and wanted half of our Greek island. It was President Johnson who warned Turkey you attack we will end all aid to your country. Turkey backed down. Because she is really a coward. President Nixon was involved with Watergate in 1974. Kissinger made a deal with Junta to kill President Makarios and take over the island. They failed. Makarios survived. Kissinger got scared and made a deal with his pal, the murderer Ecveit to invade the island. Why? To protect Israel. I have nothing against Israel. But, should Cyprus suffer because of Kissinger's love of his motherland? I don't think so. Turkey must leave and pay for the damages she did on our island. Turkey's settlers must leave even if their brats were born on our island. If the Turkish Cypriots don't obey Cypriot laws they could leave. Cyprus must be free from foreigners. Especially the Turks. They have no love for our Greek island of Aphrodite, CYPRUS.
