(A rare trip into the CyProb jungle for me; I usually leave it to the experts!). I am not sure if you saw my post earlier, but my personal view was that I was happy with halil's posts, on the basis that we need to be aware of developments in the 'north' if we are to have a useful discussion.

I am still of that view:
This is the CYPRUS Forum, not one limited to actions within the ROC.
Secondly, for those of a TC persuasion, halil's posts will merely reinforce their views, for those of GC opinion they will be soundly ignored. So, the reality is that, as propoganda, such posts fail totally. However, if they stimulate useful debate - then they are a positive.
Finally, for those who cannot accept my opinions, you have the option of ignoring all threads originated by halil.

All the above is my personal opinion and does not necessarily represent the opinion of Admin, whom determines Forum policy.

Now I have upset everybody, I will return to the placid calm of the Classifieds section.

Actions within Cyprus = Actions within RoC, since the whole island of Cyprus belongs to Republic of Cyprus.

HOUSE PRESIDENT – TURKEY - OBLIGATIONS

Turkey must fulfill its obligations if it wants a smooth path to the European Union, President of the House of Representatives Marios Garoyian said on Sunday.

``If Turkey wants to proceed smoothly with its accession course, it is obliged to do its duty, to respect its signature and to fulfill its obligations and commitments it has assumed,`` Garoyian said, adding ``otherwise Turkey will not advance smoothly to the EU.``

Invited to comment on Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu` opinion editorial to a Swedish daily that the opposition to Turkey`s EU bid by some EU member-states spreads doubt among the Turkish citizens and slows the pace of EU reforms, Garoyian said that Turkey itself holds the key to its EU accession course.

``Instead of devising problems to his country`s interior it would be wise for Turkey to comply with the international law and the EU principles and values, Garoyian added, noting that ``Turkey must decide that it cannot advance to the contemporary era with neo-ottoman approaches.``

The House President recalled that the Republic of Cyprus in 2005 did what it deemed correct, allowing Turkey to begin accession negotiations but also Turkey assumed to fulfill certain commitments which are pending ever since.

``Consequently if Turkey desires its accession course to advance smoothly it must do its duty and respect the commitments and obligations it has assumed,`` he concluded.

Cyprus, an EU member-state since 2004, has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. After Cyprus accession to the EU Turkey assumed to extent its Customs Union to all EU-member states, a commitment known as the Ankara Protocol and to open its ports and airports to ships baring the Cypriot flag and to Cypriot airplanes but has denies to implement it ever since. On 2006 the EU decided to freeze eight of the 35 negotiating chapters of Turkey`s EU accession negotiations. The European Commission is expected to issue its new progress report on December.

CYPRUS FM - EU GAERC

Cyprus Foreign Minister Marcos Kyprianou participated in the EU Informal General Affairs and External Relations Council which took place in Stockholm, September 4-5.

According to an official press release, on the sidelines of the Council, Kyprianou held a series of meetings with a number of his counterparts, whom he briefed on the recent developments regarding the current UN-led direct negotiations for solution to the Cyprus problem, while he outlined the Cypriot positions concerning the EU-Turkey relations in view of the upcoming evaluation of Turkey’s accession process in December.

The main items on the agenda of the Council were the recent developments in Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Speaking during the first day of the Council, Cypriot FM stressed the importance of resuming the peace process in Middle East and the direct talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority as soon as possible, aiming at achieving a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.

Kyprianou also referred to the importance of terminating Israel’s settlement policy and underlined the need for a more active EU involvement in the Middle East peace process.

Does Mr. Eroglu forget the reality that the whole Cyprus belongs to Republic of Cyprus and the reality that the “trnc” is an entity declared as legally invalid by the United Nations?

More than a week passed and my comment is not "approved". Why is that Halil? It appears that you at bayrak do not appreciate free speech.

Hi Sotos, you mean that Tnucland is a Fascist State where free criticism of the Illegal Regime is not looked on kindly? :shock:

Mind if I reprint the UN Resolution you refer to in full, it always makes a good read .....

Adopted by the Security Council
on 18 November 1983

The Security Council,

Having heard the statement of the Foreign Minister of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus,

Concerned at the declaration by the Turkish Cypriot authorities issued on 15 November 1983 which purports to create an independent state in northern Cyprus,

Considering that this declaration is incompatible with the 1960 Treaty concerning the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus and the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee,

Considering therefore that the attempt to create a "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus", is invalid, and will contribute to a worsening of the situation in Cyprus,

Reaffirming its resolutions 365(1974) and 367(1975),

Aware of the need for a solution of the Cyprus problem, based on the mission of good offices undertaken by the Secretary-General,

Affirming its continuing support for the United Nations Peace-Keeping Force in Cyprus,

Taking note of the Secretary-General's statement of 17 November 1983,

1. Deplores the declaration of the Turkish Cypriot authorities of the purported secession of part of the Republic of Cyprus;

2. Considers the declaration referred to above as legally invalid and calls for its withdrawal;

3. Calls for the urgent and effective implementation of its resolutions 365(1974) and 367(1975);

4. Requests the Secretary-General to pursue his mission of good offices in order to achieve the earliest possible progress towards a just and lasting settlement in Cyprus;

5. Calls upon the parties to cooperate fully with the Secretary-General in his mission of good offices;

6. Calls upon all States to respect the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and non-alignment of the Republic of Cyprus;

7. Calls upon all States not to recognise any Cypriot state other than the Republic of Cyprus;

8. Calls upon all States and the two communities in Cyprus to refrain from any action which might exacerbate the situation;

9. Requests the Secretary-General to keep the Security Council fully informed.

Adopted at the 2500th meeting by 13 votes to 1 against (Pakistan) with 1 abstention (Jordan).
