The United Nations Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Alexander Downer has expressed disappointment over the postponement of today’s meeting between the two leaders who were to launch the second round of the talks.
The UN Envoy said the UN was looking forward to seeing the two leaders getting together as soon as possible and continuing with the negotiations.
He added that the UN did not want to see any further disruptions in the process.
“The important thing is that the two sides should focus on the main game, and the main game is to achieve an agreement on the future of Cyprus and that’s what the United Nations wants”, he said.
Expressing the hope that the two leaders would soon meet to resume the second round of the talks, he said “the process through is a difficult process and there will be good days and bad days. And when the situation is tough as it is today, people should keep their minds focus on the long term objective which is a settlement to the Cyprus problem.
