Talat:The TRNC is in control of Varosha...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Talat:The TRNC is in control of Varosha...

Postby cymart » Tue Sep 01, 2009 11:06 pm

Oh really??Since when did Ankara hand it over to them?In that case I will go to Talats office and ask him to allow a goodwill visit by me and other interested former residents as he now says he has the authority-in contrast to what he has apparently told Christophias every time he raises the subject of Varosha with him!Better still, let's test whether it is true and just make our way through those stupid barriers covered with green tarpaulins and start clearing the place up!We have nothing against the Turkish Cypriots and want peace with them just like Talat says he wants too so how could they have any objection? We will save them the time and trouble of cleaning up the mess they have created since 1974!
Talat has to do nothing-in fact do nothing at all and just let us get to work!

You could have had Varosha and Omorfo back and most of the Turkish Army out of Cyprus by now too, but the GC population decided against it.

They must have had very good reasons to turn down these towns, don't you think?

Yep. I remember a certain president negotiating and then not recommending the result for the vote. That was first time that ever happened in the history of negotiations in the whole world.. Secondly, the same man appearing on TV crying claiming that they can vote no because there will be a better agreement round the corner. Well History has proven the exact opposite because each time the agreement is slightly worst then the previous one and this time will be no exception. The difference of course is that there will not be a next time.

Not true. And I don't think that's the main reason they turned down these towns, Freddie.

There will be no agreement if it's worse to one already rejected. Logic dictates this.

Forget next time, there won't even be an agreement on the table this time if it isn't an improvement on the last time, Freddie.

Papadopoulos never said there was a better agreement. He talked of the danger of giving the TCs everything foreseen for them under the deal while the GCs would have to wait for up to ten years to see their promsed gains. And in the meantime Turkey would be the sole arbiter of whether she s hould honor he rsignature, refusing any interim role for the UN.

With such terms a NO was the only wise choice.

As for each succeding deal being worse than the one before, then it follows that all deals should be refused. Firstly because this premise is one hell of a way to negotiate, secondly because it shows the mindset of the other side, and finally because what is being offered is worse than the present.

Until an offer is made which is better than what exists now, there is no point in talking. Give Christofias a couple more months and he will realise who he is dealing with.

Then, we have learned nothing from the past 49 years.

Who is we?

Cypriots have been shafted by foreign imperialists, who have conspired to carve up their island - by forcing Cypriots to sign up to an unworkable constitution, written for the foreign imperialists' benefit, giving Britain two military bases, and Greece and Turkey intervention rights.

And now, 49 years on, you want Cypriots to sign up to another agreement, one which will officially give another slice of the island, this time to Turkey? And when you see that there is resistance to this you say we have learnt nothing?

Who is we?

Re Cypriot, begin from 1960, the very first meeting of the GC leadership and the decisions they took to go for enosis at any cost which tore the country apart and that will lead you to who is we.
