TURKISH FM SAID ALTERNATIVES WOULD BE DISCUSSED IF THE CYPRUS PROBLEM WAS NOT SOLVED

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has told Turkish NTV channel that the Greek Cypriot Administration was acting contrary to the spirit of peace by using the Cyprus issue as an instrument against Turkey’s EU membership process.
He said alternatives would be discussed if the Cyprus problem was not solved.

On the continuing peace process in Cyprus, he said “no one should think that the second round of the talks and those to follow the second round will continue forever”.

The Foreign Minister said Ankara was in favour of an agreement which would guarantee the future of the Turkish Cypriot people and protect Turkey’s interests in the Eastern Mediterranean and those of the Greek Cypriot people.

“No time should be wasted if the subject is peace” he said, complaining that the Greek Cypriot Administration was acting contrary to the spirit of peace by using the Cyprus issue as an instrument against Turkey’s EU membership process.

Mr Davutoğlu said alternatives would be discussed if the Cyprus problem was not solved.

He also warned against partial solution to the Cyprus problem, saying that such a move would not bring lasting peace to the island.

On Turkey’s status as a guarantor power, Mr Davutoğlu said “we are not posing a threat to anyone. The guarantorship of Turkey, Britain and Greece forms a structure providing security for Cyprus”.

GREEK CYPRIOT POLITICAL PARTIES DESCRIBE TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTER’S VISIT AS “ILLEGAL” AND “PROVOCATIVE”

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu’s visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has, as usual, led to reactions on the Greek Cypriot Side.

Describing the visit as “illegal”, Greek Cypriot politicians have issued threats at Ankara’s EU membership bid.

The reactions on the Greek Cypriot Side towards the Turkish Foreign Minister’s visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus come as no surprise.

It’s not the first time the Greek Cypriot politicians in the South get worked up about a visit to the TRNC by a Turkish or foreign dignitary.

Commenting on the visit, the leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration Demetris Christofias alleged that Turkey could change it’s stance on a settlement following the Turkish Foreign Minister’s visit to the TRNC.

He claimed that substantial change was needed in the Turkish position if progress was to be achieved in the ongoing talks aimed at finding a solution to the Cyprus Problem.

Meanwhile more reactions to Davutoglu’s visit came from Greek Cypriot political parties.

The spokesman for the Greek Cypriot DISI party Haris Georgiadis described the Turkish Foreign Minister’s visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as illegal.

Stating that the Turkish Side was systematically holding consultations with Ankara and determining a joint strategy on the Cyprus Problem, Georgiadis said that the Turkish Side continued to be one step ahead in the talks.

Also protesting the visit, DIKO press spokesman Fotis Fotiu said that Turkey needed to pay a political price for what he pointed out was its failure to meet EU membership obligations and its stance on the Cyprus negotiations process.

Other Greek Cypriot political parties such as EDEK, EVRO.KO, and the Greens also described Davutoglu’s visit as “provocative” and “illegal”.

As I suspected... you can't offer any credible alternatives. It's just more unsubstantiated nonsense. You are a credit to your profession, halil.

Credible or not, there is only 3 alternatives, do you really want me to list them?

You can list them but, if they are not credible, what's the point?

Credible or not, it will be one of them that will materialise within I would say a year of the completion of the current negotiations.
