The US was going to "help" Iran with what exactly? :?

That’s not helping a country! That’s supporting a "preferred" candidate to further ones own selfish ambitions!

BIG DIFFERENCE!

Nikitas, u talk like as if u don't know how things go behind the scenes and at the front of the allies.

KEY PEOPLE IN NATIONAL SECURITY

Richard Morningstar, a former advisor to President Clinton on Caspian energy, was instrumental in pushing for the Baku-Tiblisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. Strong candidate for the position of the National Security Advisor. He is Pro-Turkish and he is considered the key person who kept Cyprus, Greek and Armenian issues out of the Democratic platform.

Richard Holbrooke. After Sandy Burger was forced to quit, he is one of the favors for the position of the Secretary of State. He knows very well Cyprus and Greek American issues. He advised Kerry to wait until a later stage at the campaign, before he announces his positions on Cyprus.

William Perry. Former Secretary of Defense, and a supporter of a strong role for Turkey.

Joe Biden. One of the closest friends and associates of Kerry in the Senate and a candidate for Secretary of State. He is a philhellene.

Ted Kennedy. Kerry’s Guru and a philhellene and the last resort for the Greek Americans to see their positions to receive Kerry’s support.

Oh well, jolly good show and all that. It keeps the price of oil low and sweet for the western economies, don't you know?

Turn coat. Since when have you been pro American?

i lik ehow when the turks dont get what they want they resort to threatewning and entimidating and trying to push what they want and pretend like they will od this or that to scare the other side when in reality they are realising no one is buying their bullshit and no one is going to recognise or allow turkey to turkify cyprus

Nikitas wrote:Let us list some "alternatives" for both sides

Turkey annexes the north

Turkey organises an international campaign for the recognition of the north

Turkey pushes for the Taiwanisation of the north

Turkey goes on a bender and starts a military campaign against the RoC

Now let us look at the Greek side's options

None of the above diminish the legal claims of the RoC on the north.

None of the above extinguish the individual rights of ownership in the north. Turkey will find itself twice as guilty in the ECHR.

Additionally-

RoC can cast off the north, recognising it and letting it go. Recognition by RoC is the only full legalisation tha can extinguish the rights of individuals. And that will be a situation like the guy who wants the biggest dick in the world and finally the fairy grants his wish, whereupon the next question is "now you got it what you gonna to do with it?". Independence in these circumstance will mean a fate of being kicked out of any western club where RoC is a member, ie EU.

RoC can unite with Greece and turn the green line to an extension of the Greek-Turkish frontier and make Greece a middle eastern power, a turkish nightmare since 1923. Turkey having annexed the north will not be able to do a thing about it.

RoC can grant a full scale naval facility to Russia and upset the US dogma which can accept Russia as a major land power but not a major sea power (see Monteagle Stearns book about this aspect of US policy, ,he should know he was a lifelong career US diplomat and ambassador to Greece for some years).

RoC and Greece crank their defence cooperation a few notches and Turkey finds itself involved in a tense situation along half its international border.

Greece would have a wonderful excuse to extend its territorial sea to 12 miles if Turkey annexes the north, again a move that would be seen by the west as an equal and fair move in view of annexation.

And on top of all this there would be permanent veto by RoC, Greece and all the others in the EU that are looking for an excuse to keep Turkey out.

Ralistically the only alternative is that of Taiwanisation, which will come with a heavy price, the continued and intensified replacement of TCs with settlers.

So who wants to have a go at the wishing well first?

Good post, Nikitas.!

Nothing like a little bit of reality check on these mucho Fascist NeoPartitionist that not everything can be achieved through Turkey's military might. Countries do not survive only on military strength but primarily on economic strength, specially when all the 27 EU nations have a veto power over Turkey's EU entry if she decides to take part of a EU territory. Unless Turkey turns a new page with her aspirations of becoming a EU member, Armenia will become a EU member before Turkey will at this point, and if that were to happens, good luck to Turkey ever becoming a EU member, since Armenia's grievances with Turkey is far greater by about 1.5 million than it is with the RoC's.! The longer Turkey takes to find a settlement to the Cyprus problem, the greater problems she will face from other nations who really do not like her.!

By the looks of it, you have ruined all the Fascists NeoPartitionist's day with their "wet dreams", since they have all but disappeared from your post.!
