REJECTION OF THE ANNAN PLAN BY THE GC SIDE WAS FORGOTTEN

Postby halil » Tue Sep 01, 2009 6:28 pm

TRNC Prime Minister Derviş Eroğlu has said it was the Greek Cypriot Side which has been displaying an intransigent attitude at the negotiation table.

The Premier’s words came during a visit paid to him by the TRNC’s Honorary Cultural Attache to Bavaria and the former Bavarian Prime Minister Günther Beckstein.

During the visit, Prime Minister Eroğlu informed Mr Beckstein on the Cyprus issue.

Prime Minister Eroğlu said that his government was in favor of an agreement which would make it possible for the two peoples to live in peace.

Stressing that it was the Greek Cypriot Side which did not want the settlement of the Cyprus question, he said the fact that the Greek Cypriots adopted an intransigent attitude and rejected the Annan Plan was forgotten very quickly.

He noted important responsibilities fell on the European Union and Germany on this issue.

Former Bavarian Prime Minister and a leading politician in Germany Günther Beckstein said that the rejection of the Annan Plan had created disappointment in his country but expressed the hope to see the ongoing Cyprus negotiation process bringing better results.

“The recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and its international relations have long been on the agenda”, he said, expressing the belief that the Greek Cypriot Side which rejected the UN peace plan has important responsibility on this.

Mr Beckstein is in the TRNC to witness Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana which will be performed at the Girne Amphitheatre tomorrow and Thursday.

Some 150 musicians, choristers and soloists from Germany, Turkey and the TRNC will perform the popular piece, which immediately established the reputation of its Bavarian composer as one of the most important of his generation, when first performed in Frankfurt in 1937.

Funds to be raised by the concerts will be donated to the Special Education Foundation, the Cyprus Turkish Orthopedic Disability Foundation and the Cyprus Turkish Women’s Solidarity Council.

The concerts will be given under the auspices of the Chairwoman of the Council - First Lady Oya Talat with contributions of Turkish Ambassador to Nicosia Şakir Fakılı.

The concerts were organized by the TRNC’s Honorary Cultural Attache to Bavaria artist Turgay Hilmi in cooperation with German politician Marga Beckstein.

They just make it up. They're allowed to. Here are extracts from their union's code of conduct:

A "TRNC" journalist...

1 has a duty to maintain the lowest professional and ethical standards;
2 shall strive to introduce distortion, news suppression and censorship;
3 strive to ensure that the information they disseminate is unfair, inaccurate and distorted;
4 shall accept bribes and other inducements to influence the performance of their professional duties;
5 lend themselves to the distortion or suppression of the truth because of advertising or other considerations;
6 originate and process material which encourages discrimination, ridicule, prejudice or hatred of Cypriots living in the areas not controlled by Turkey's army.

I wouldn't call trying to achieve justice intransigence. But seriously, how many times must we hear this rubbish about a 'plan' that was never going to be acceptable? There is no way that Cyprus should be divided into separate states on the basis of race. There is one Cyprus for all Cypriots. There was/is no way people are going to legalise the theft of their homes and land, which every single court looking into the matter has agreed belong to the pre-invasion holders. To state this is intransigence is malicious and is likely to push back settlement even further. Bring it to court I say. We'll see how long this nonsense stands.
