i`ll try to explain timeshare to you, its away to take your holidays , you have to own a week in a certain timeshare resort or hotel and use your week every year in the same place or exchange it to another timeshare resort, so if u did get into timeshare system you no longer use travel agents! you get stuck in a syetem that you have to pay money every year + your join in money and you get people trying to take money off you every time you go in holiday, people in street try to get you to hotels by using scrach cards so u end up in a sales presintation..!

Timeshare touts are an absolute pain, and they're getting worse. There presence is now having an impact on tourism as people are so fed up with them. Locking them up for the night seems a perfectly reasonable action and I hope it continues - does your friend have a work permit btw?

As I say, I sympathise with you for your treatment, but I'm delighted the police are finally cracking down on the touts.

"What's the rap?" as they say in Jimmy Cagney movies; i.e. what offence have they committed and is summary one night detention by the police a legitimate sanction in the RoC? I hope not because that would mean we are living in a police state.

Probably working without SI contributions or completing tax returns; maybe they are also required to have a street vendor's licince - though I appreciate they are not actually selling anything. Working from a vehicle which only has 'private use' insurance (if at all!).

I am sure if they think long enough, the Police will come up with some broken laws.

In short, they sell you a holiday home at exorbitant prices which you only own two weeks a year. They will show you a 'show flat' and that is not what you always get. Very dodgy.

Tim - the "rap" is they MAY be working without a permit. Which is illegal. Additionally there are accusations of threatening behaviour, dangerous driving (i.e. jumping off scooters to harrass potential mugs. There are numerous offences they could be committing and if it gets them off the street then fair enough.

Believe me, I'm anti "police state" methods more than most, its what annoys me most about the UK, but these touts are an absolute pain in the backside and I fully support their being on the receiving end of a bit of harrassment for a change.

Richie.
