PELATHOUSA

Postby kafenes » Mon Aug 31, 2009 1:45 pm

On a recent drive drive around the country side looking for classic car rally routes I came across to this old TC village called Pelathousa for the first time. It is situated in a most beautiful part of Cyprus and has not been lived in for a long time as you can see from the pictures. Some shepherds keep some animals there now. I was told this was an 'all TC' village and was out of bounds for GCs.

The first picture is of a mosque which seems to have been extended on an old church.

The next couple of pictures are of the deserted houses which are not livable.

The next picture is of a large building which could have been a factory or a warehouse. The sign in Turkish is still on it. maybe someone can tell me what it says.

I have also been here and could not believe such a place existed.
You drive up narrow streets and it is completely deserted.
It actually made me very sad.
Like Kafenes I would like to know more

"Karaağaç ilkokulu"(Karaağaç Elementary School) is written on that sign, Kafenes. :) The name of the village, in English means Blacktree. Has Pelathousa any meaning?

Sad to see such a beautiful place in Paphos district deserted.

Yes insan, truly a sad sight. The dirt road which connects it to Piolis has just been surfaced and it's good. The drive down to Polis goes through some fields with lots of different fruit trees. The view is also very beautiful.
Being so close to Saramas and Instinjo perhaps the elementary school covered the region of more TC villages as the building seems too big for an elementary school just for this village.

Maybe Bir can shed some more light on this as his father was a teacher in these areas.

If you want to know more about Pelathousa, visit Moustakallis resturant in Polis, Andreas, the owners son works there and is the Muktar of Pelathousa
