If it's confirmed it would, as far as I know, be by far the biggest single attrocity from that awful Summer of '74 and it wouldn't have been the murderous work of a small deranged group of soldeirs or paramilitaries but given the aleged scale, but the work of a large company of Turkish Soldeirs acting under the Direct Orders of a Turkish Commander.
This and other similar matters must be investigated in full before any settlement. I would suggest that any settlement would be blown out of the water if these matters come to light post-settlement. The truth will be out and it's better to be out sooner rather than later.
If this is a massacre, it is no different than any other massacre committed by both sides. What is important is that the truth comes out and the remains are recovered and handed to their surviving relatives so they can finally have some peace of mind and closure of their lost relatives.
It may make a difference before the peace process but it will have no effect after it’s settled. You will find those who are affected are mostly forgiving for the sake of the whole country. Those who are out for blood have no idea what they are talking about.
Classic example is the meeting of the two soldiers from Lefke.
